For 1 million and up, inaugural donors will get candlelight dinner with Trump and other access

Source: Washington Post

The committee raising money for President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural festivities is offering exclusive access to the new president, Cabinet nominees and congressional leaders in exchange for donations of 1 million and more.

For seven-figure contributions, Trump's richest supporters will get a slew of special perks during the inauguration weekend, including eight tickets to a "candlelight dinner" that will feature "special appearances" by Trump, his wife Melania, Vice President-elect Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, according to a sheet detailing "underwriter package benefits" obtained by The Washington Post. The 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee confirmed the authenticity of the donor brochure, which was first reported by the Center for Public Integrity.

Other million-donor benefits include an exclusive lunch "with select Cabinet appointees and House and Senate leadership," four tickets to "an intimate dinner" with the Pences, eight tickets to a lunch with "the ladies of the first families," eight tickets and premier access to the inaugural ball and priority booking at "Premier Inaugural Hotel(s)."

The special rewards being offered to Trump's biggest backers could cut against his pledge to "drain the swamp" and run an administration free from the influence of wealthy interests. The big-money solicitation comes as top Trump donors and former lobbyists are playing significant roles shaping the new administration. Among them is Steven Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs executive who served as Trump's national finance chairman and is expected to be tapped to be treasury secretary.

(Editing to note that there should be a dollar sign in that subject line before "1 million" but it wouldn't appear after I copied it from the WP site, or after any of the times I added it before previewing again. Have been running into problems with apostrophes not showing up in subject lines, too, though I can usually add them later.)

Andrea Mitchell would talk about it obsessively for weeks. And Maureen Dowd would once again turn her column over to her idiot conservative brother for a slew of nasty comments.

and how do they (GOP, trumpsters, media) not see the yuuuuge pasting of hypocritical irony here? I just don't get it... The GOP have been rocking the projection strat and 'blame them for what we do' type of politics for quite sometime.

However, a large part of the anti-HRC media fueled fevor was over pay to play or what secret hidden business dealings the Clintons might have lurking in the background (play scary music here).

This guy had them out in the damn open the whole time he ran and now he's cranking it up to an eleven while the media tosses snowflake headlines like "Democrats try to force a fight on President-elect Donald Trump's business interests."

Now there are some with more bite to them as the scuttling of our country has begun. Nice of CNN et al to wait until now to get serious on reporting the obvious.

But hey, emails...

Everything they are doing is illegal. But no one seems to even care. It's just like oh, well.

I wonder if private citizens could bring suits? We have some billionaires on our side, too.

kinds of states and neighborhoods and cities could have a beer-and-pizza gathering, and begin a conversation on running strong local / state candidates.

Somebody could drive over to Target, buy some blue candles. Somebody else could finalize the list of likely attendees. A third person could order the pizza and pick someone to drive to get it and the beer.

Not as high profiled as the Trump gig, but way more fun with way better company.

amount they were going to spend for the candlelight dinner event by writing checks for animal rescue organizations instead. Then, a second check to a local women's shelter. A third check to the local library to buy books for young readers. And a fourth for an environmental group of their choice.

I'm not suggesting that this is even remotely likely to occur. Only saying the money could be used for far better things.
