Is North Carolina Our Modern Day Selma?

11/28/16- Roland Martin talks to Rev. William Barber, NAACP North Carolina conference chair, about the newest issues that North Carolina is facing against the Republicans.

“What these people are doing is incredibly cynical and wrong. They filed bogus complains claiming voting fraud. The did that to slow down the canvasing process. Now the Governor is calling for a recount but he’s filed these bogus complaints. This is bad,” Rev. Barber said.

"We continue to believe the maps drawn by the General Assembly, pre-cleared by the Obama Justice Department and twice upheld by our state’s elected Supreme Court are constitutional, and we will move quickly to appeal."

The court's ruling is already on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, as is the case involving Congressional districts. The court will hear the case regarding the Congressional maps on Monday, Dec. 5th.

What is this "pre-cleared by the Obama DOJ?"

That is... if it can get accepted in time

Either way, however, the legislature gets to draw the next set of lines... so it's unlikely to be a huge improvement. It might, however, be enough to break their super-majority (a key with an incoming Democratic governor).
