Sad to say the officer has passed away. The video at the link gives more updated information.

I've heard before that domestic violence situations can be the most dangerous call for officers.
Too much hurt and sadness everyday.

(1,058 posts)This will not spawn many replies, and it will drop off the page, unless a right wing Trump supporter is proven to be the shooter.
There are many jobs that are more dangerous than being a policeman in terms of making you dead as a direct result of your job.
There are very few of those other jobs in which being willing to kill someone else makes it less likely to be killed on your job. There are obviously exceptions - we don't hold the military responsible for killing people when their job is to kill people.
There's no good answer here, but:
1. Pay your police officers better
2. Get better training for your police officers
3. Hope you get damn lucky and 1 & 2 are moot
4. Hold your high ranking police officers accountable when their subordinates fuck up. Punish officers who shoot inappropriately, but punish their chain of command with something more meaningful than "your budget is going to be slashed for the lawsuit "
