Trump Objects to Stein's Presidential Recount
Source: Detroit News
<snip>
Trumps 36-page objection asks the Board of State Canvassers to reject the recount on grounds that the statewide recount would be costly to taxpayers to complete facing a Dec. 13 deadline and that it likely wont change the elections outcome. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson has estimated the total cost at $5 million, with the state and counties picking up $4 million of the tab and Stein about $970,000.
Trump won by 10,704 votes over Democrat Hillary Clinton, getting 2.27 million votes, or 47.5 percent, of the vote to the former secretary of states 2.26 million votes, or 47.27 percent. Stein received 51,463 votes, or about 1.1 percent.
The Board of State Canvassers, a panel of two Republicans and two Democrats, has scheduled a 9:30 a.m. Friday hearing at the Lansing Center for the Trump campaigns appeal.

(29,322 posts)Then why does Stein have to shell out 7 million?
Stien has said she would pay for the recounts....what is this garbage about ?? He's not going to pay for anything, it's why she was so successful at raising money. I think if she asks again she'll get even more.
However, those that gave away the protest vote to the other two.... I am very disappointed they didn't listen to Bernie when he endorsed Hillary.

(11,867 posts)According to the recount statute, the cost to Stein is a fixed amount of just under 1 million$$. According to the Michigan Secretary of State, costs are estimated to be several times what Stein is paying making the individual counties responsible for paying the extra costs.
A lot of people in Michigan are angry that this will cost taxpayers several million when Stein only got 1% of the vote. The question behind the appeal by Trump supporters is that since Stein has no chance of the recount affecting her vote totals, does she even have standing to demand the recount in the first place?
This is why Hillary should have been the one requesting the recounts

(11,867 posts)In my rural county in Michigan Stein had < 1% of the vote. Very red part of the state every election and under 20K in number of people voting.
Trump 71%
Clinton 24%
Johnson 3.5 %
Stein 0.9 %
Castle 0.5%
Soltysik 0.03%
Stein is only paying a fraction of the costs, making it the responsibility of the individual counties to make up the difference.
Stein's folly of a publicity grab is going to cost our county thousands of dollars in recounting costs. Guess I can curse Stein & the Green Party every time I hit the pothole on my road that won't get filled now.

(1,015 posts)President-elects attorneys claim Stein is not entitled to a recount and describe Green party candidates actions as creating an electoral farce
Donald Trump asked the state of Michigan on Thursday to reject Jill Steins request for a recount of the presidential election.
Attorneys for the US president-elect argued in a filing to Michigan election officials that Stein was not entitled to the recount and that it could not be completed in time before the state must cast its electoral college votes.
Michigan should not grant this lawless, insulting request, and its voters should not risk having the Electoral College door knocked off its hinges, all because a one-percent candidate is dissatisfied with the elections outcome, Trumps filing said.

(1,015 posts)just dropped from approximately 70K in favor of Trump down to 46,978 before the recount even starts. Apparently there were some votes in Philadelphia that had not been counted and certified and those votes came in this morning resulting in the update. A reduction of approx 23,022 votes just as the recount is ramping up. Interesting that we hadn't heard about these outstanding votes previous and they just wiped out more than a third of Trumps lead in the state. Hmmmmm!!!!!!

So when you sit on your golden throne in your bathroom tower of babel, and tweet and then try to figure out how to wipe your right wing a**, with your version of the Constitution, remember there are more than 2.5 million in more the POPULAR VOTE over your sorry a** and your objections of citizens wanting some f***ing answers--------------------so in other words for a serial predator get over it, we want some answers, we have already seen your side and it's nothing more than a con and scam.

................It would take a 3-1 vote by the evenly divided board of two Democrats and two Republicans to stop the recount.
But the elections panel, which has scheduled a 9:30 a.m. Friday hearing in Lansing on Trumps objection, has a long history of deadlocking on highly partisan issues. A 2-2 deadlock vote would cause the recount to go forward after two business days, likely starting Wednesday.
Democrat Julie Matuzak supported the recount at a Monday canvassers meeting and said Thursday it should go forward.
I didnt see anything in Mr. Trumps response that would make me change my mind, Matuzak told The Detroit News. In my opinion, (Stein) has met the qualifications for asking for the recount.
Jeanette Bradshaw, the other Democrat on the panel, did not express an opinion about the recount at Mondays meeting and could not be reached Thursday for comment...........................
Snyder makes appointment, reappointment to Board of State Canvassers

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Jeanette Bradshaw, of Ortonville, and the reappointment of Colleen Pero, of Laingsburg, to the Board of State Canvassers.
Created by the state Constitution of 1850, the board oversees the canvassing and certifying of statewide elections, adopting of ballot language for statewide ballot proposals and other tasks. The four-person panel is made up of two representatives from the two main political parties.
Bradshaw is recording secretary and registrar for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 58 in Detroit. She is a Michigan Democratic State Central Committee nominee, and replaces James Waters.

If there was seriously a conspiracy or fraud committed, then I know which way she will vote.
I think if this recount is prevented, it is proof that we have lost control of this country, and more importantly, that our vote is irrelevant. I don't really care to hear about how we should try to take things back in 2018 & 2020, when there is a legitimate question as to whether the election is rigged, hacked, and fraudulent.
If there is no recount in Michigan, any already low chance Hillary might have, is gone completely. She may as well have lost Michigan by 20% rather than 1%. That's all the proof I need to know what I've thought since December 2000. Many would say that our government is corrupt, but have we any idea how corrupt? Too unbelievable to talk about out loud, without being ridiculed, put away, or perhaps worse.

(29,322 posts)LANSING -- President-elect Donald Trump filed a lawsuit Friday in the Michigan Court of Appeals, seeking to block a recount of Michigan's presidential vote, hours after a deadlocked State Board of Canvassers gave the green light for the recount to start as early as Tuesday, but more likely on Wednesday.
Trump's court action followed a similar suit filed Friday morning by Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette, who asked the Court of Appeals to send his case directly to the Michigan Supreme Court, to expedite the appeal process.
Trump, through Lansing attorneys Gary Gordon and John Pirich and other attorneys, said Green Party candidate Jill Stein's petition for a recount is technically deficient and because she received only 1.07% of the vote in Michigan, she "has no possible opportunity to earn Michigan's electoral votes or become president," but "seeks to thrust a costly and time-consuming recount upon Michigan citizens."
"Stein urges the board to expend tens of millions of dollars on a wild goose chase that even Stein cannot identify," the lawsuit alleges.
