Iceland's Pirate party invited to form government

Icelands president has invited the anti-establishment Pirate party to form a government, after the right- and leftwing parties failed in their bids.

The conservative Independence party, which performed best at the polls, initially tried to form a government with the liberal, centre-right Reform party and the centrist Bright Future.

Giving the Pirate party, which came third in the election, the chance to build a government has been seen as a bold move that is not guaranteed to be a success.

Lots of failures to build a coalition. I suspect anything that is put together won't last long.

(614 posts)I certainly have more faith in their Government than our own. Iceland possesses one of the oldest and most democratic systems of government in the world, and they put people first instead of the banks.

But, well...we've got a three-ring circus, complete with a barker. So, uh...
While I do see the humor, my heart just isn't in it.
That said...I hope a working solution is found in Iceland that serves the people well.
