Colorado doctor who called Michelle Obama ‘monkey face’ resigns from hospital job

David Ferguson
03 Dec 2016 at 19:20 ET

The Colorado doctor who came under fire this week for calling First Lady Michelle Obama a “monkey face” who speaks “poor ebonic English” has resigned from her job as a pediatric anesthesiologist.

The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Dr. Michelle Herren stepped down from her position at Denver Health Medical Center after her racist comments on Facebook kicked off a firestorm of controversy.

This is the second post she has lost since the remarks became public. Earlier this week, she was fired from her teaching position at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.

Herren was responding to a Facebook post about Michelle Obama’s eloquence as a public speaker and the pedigree of the First Lady’s Princeton and Harvard education when Herren wrote, “Doesn’t seem to be speaking too eloquently here, thank god we can’t hear her!” She then added, “Harvard??? That’s a place for ‘entitled’ folks said all the liberals!”

Those foundations of respect and behavior were taught to me early by my parents, and I was expected to act accordingly. Those who have shown they probably never had even a brief acquaintance with that kind of character upbringing can scream and yell all they want, but when consequences come knocking, their usual excuse is they are for you, not for me. The first thing out of their mouth "I'm not racist, but". Too bad she lost her job, but I have no more shits to give.

She was teaching in a public university. One cannot speak like that and keep a job. She is a racist piece of shit. I bet she'll have trouble getting a job anywhere. Maybe our new president will make her Surgeon General; she would fit right in with the rest of the pigs in his cabinet.

Here's a transcript of Michelle's most recent speech. It's completely eloquent, but written for an average listener.

http://www.npr.org/2016/10/13/497846667/transcript-michelle-obamas-speech-on-donald-trumps-alleged-treatment-of-women

sample:

"And I know it's a campaign, but this isn't about politics. It's about basic human decency. It's about right and wrong. And we simply cannot endure this, or expose our children to this any longer — not for another minute, and let alone for four years. Now is the time for all of us to stand up and say enough is enough. This has got to stop right now.

Because consider this: If all of this is painful to us as grown women, what do you think this is doing to our children? What message are our little girls hearing about who they should look like, how they should act? What lessons are they learning about their value as professionals, as human beings, about their dreams and aspirations? And how is this affecting men and boys in this country? Because I can tell you that the men in my life do not talk about women like this. And I know that my family is not unusual. And to dismiss this as everyday locker-room talk is an insult to decent men everywhere."

Compare that to any trump speech. Blech.

yet in her position what about patient Dr. trust? I would not want her as an anesthesiologist if I had brown skin, wore a hijab or looked and had a Hispanic surname. This denver post editorial opinion just show how far people will go to protect one their own when that persons social/professional/racial value is deemed more important than the object of their hate and racism. Period.

Was the speech unduly disruptive? I'd say yes. It could cause disruption in workplace relations by contributing to a hostile environment, inspiring protests outside the clinics, etc.

Would you, as a potential customer, want to go there for care, especially if you were a person of color, knowing this doctor holds such hateful views? Probably not.

Since the comments went viral, Herren has claimed that she was taken out of context and had no idea that calling a black woman a monkey was racist at all.

An educator and a doctor and that's the best she could come up with. I didn't know.

What a vile human.

Teach her also to dispise intelligent people as elites or hated liberals.
This seems to be an added dislike of theirs especially for upper educated POC . Can't win with these types because it does not matter what is done
the bigotry is most important to them.
