Reid: Comey should be investigated in wake of Russia report

Source: thehill

Retiring Sen. Harry Reid on (D-Nev.) on Saturday blasted FBI Director James Comey, calling for him to be investigated in light of a report that the CIA secretly concluded Russia was trying to help Donald Trump win the presidency.

"I think [Comey] should be investigated by the Senate, he should be investigated by other agencies of the government, including the security agencies," Reid told MSNBC.

"You look at the accounts we have just in the press the last few days its stunning, stunning, the conclusions reached by the press. Thank goodness we've got them still around ... this is not fake news, okay?" he added.

The Washington Post on Friday reported that the CIA concluded Russia was intervening in the election specifically to help Trump.

Once Comey knew the hacking would never be confirmed to the public by Congress, he knew Wikileaks would soften Hillary's support enough that one FBI letter saying she was criminal investigation would take her out. So that is what he did.

I would like to know who was there.

I found this on Wikipedia about "Gang of 8" so maybe that's eight of the twelve?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gang_of_Eight_(intelligence)
The Gang of Eight is a colloquial term for a set of eight leaders within the United States Congress who are briefed on classified intelligence matters by the executive branch. Specifically, the Gang of Eight includes the leaders of each of the two parties from both the Senate and House of Representatives, and the chairs and ranking minority members of both the Senate Committee and House Committee for intelligence as set forth by 50 U.S.C. § 413(b).

The President of the United States is required by 50 U.S.C. § 413(a)(1) to "ensure that the congressional intelligence committees are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States." However, under 50 U.S.C. § 413(b)(c2), the President may elect to report instead to the Gang of Eight under "extraordinary circumstances", when he thinks "it is essential to limit access" to information about a covert action.

United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence:
Devin Nunes (R): (Chair)
Adam Schiff (D): (Ranking member)
United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence:
Richard Burr (R): (Chair)
Dianne Feinstein (D): (Vice Chairman)
Leadership in the United States House of Representatives:
Paul Ryan (R): (Speaker of the House)
Nancy Pelosi (D): (Minority leader)
Leadership in the United States Senate:
Mitch McConnell (R): (Majority leader)
Harry Reid (D): (Minority leader)

From WAPO:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/obama-orders-review-of-russian-hacking-during-presidential-campaign/2016/12/09/31d6b300-be2a-11e6-94ac-3d324840106c_story.html?utm_term=.1d0d56f199ab

Instead, officials devised a plan to seek bipartisan support from top lawmakers and set up a secret meeting with the Gang of 12 — a group that includes House and Senate leaders, as well as the chairmen and ranking members of both chambers’ committees on intelligence and homeland security.
~~~
The Democratic leaders in the room unanimously agreed on the need to take the threat seriously. Republicans, however, were divided, with at least two GOP lawmakers reluctant to accede to the White House requests.
According to several officials, McConnell raised doubts about the underlying intelligence and made clear to the administration that he would consider any effort by the White House to challenge the Russians publicly an act of partisan politics.
Some of the Republicans in the briefing also seemed opposed to the idea of going public with such explosive allegations in the final stages of an election, a move that they argued would only rattle public confidence and play into Moscow’s hands.
Of the Republicans.
Why not go with the majority instead of bending to the will of the Republicans who disagreed?
They could have still noted bipartisan agreement to do so.
There would be HUGE front page headlines in every newspaper; social media would be on fire with people screaming non-stop about it; neighbors would be on lawns shaking their heads; TV news would dedicate endless hours to the topic; the FBI and CIA would be doing immediate investigations...
But no, it's just a Republican party coup. Never mind. No news here. Yawn.
We can scream all we want but, unfortunately, I don't think this news will get us anywhere. Voters who supported Trump do not care and would vote for him again. Not to mention, Russia is retaining RNC emails as collateral. I can only imagine what kind of dirt in those emails so the GOP will do anything in their power to please Russia. The new administration is decidedly alt-right for which pro-Russia is a key element. By the way, Russia has lended over 20M euros to Marine Le Pen campaign and Bannon is it's consultant.
