Retiring Sen. Harry Reid said he urged FBI director James Comey to address Russian hacking
The President-elect has brushed off the CIA's conclusion that Russia hacked
(CNN)Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Monday FBI Director James Comey was "heavily involved as a partisan" in the weeks leading up to the election and that Comey's actions handed the presidency to Donald Trump.
The retiring Nevada Democrat said Democrats "would have won the majority in the Senate and would have won the presidency but for Comey."
"It's obvious he was a partisan in all this," Reid told CNN's Manu Raju in an interview. "There's information out there. He had it, I'm confident. And he ignored it."
He said Comey "significantly" helped make Trump the President-elect, faulting his failure to condemn Russian hacking of Democratic operatives and his handling of the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's email server.
Reid said he urged Comey to address the hacking, which intelligence agencies have concluded was the result of Russian efforts to tilt the election toward Trump.
"I am saying the FBI did nothing -- did nothing....................

Pretty darn harsh but true statement. Ask anyone who works the Recreational Business.

(2,957 posts)The loss can't be isolated to a single cause. I don't think the Comey thing was even a major contributor, although I do agree it was a factor.
- Voter suppression.
- Voter roll purges.
- Apathetic non-voters.
- FBI memo.
- Russian hacking.
- Wikileaks DNC email release.
- Republican SoS's & local elections officials' malfeasance.
- Third-party vote draws.
All of the above conspired together to chip away at the edges and get Trump just over the margins. Remember - Hillary lost three swing states by a combined total of fewer than 80,000 votes. That's not a whole lot. Relief from any one or two of the above factors may have swung it the other way. - Respectfully
I tend to put more weight on voter suppression,
intimidation, and ballot manipulation of various kinds.
I remember hearing about the DNC hacks and about some of the emails, but as a story it seemed to disappear rather quickly.
Now, the Comey letter regarding new Clinton emails just days before the election may have been more important.

(19,806 posts)In the really agonizing thing as the story broke when I was having surgery that day I didn't even hear about this until like the middle of the day after it broke and I still couldn't process what the hell was going on. I thought they had found incriminating emails not that they may have found incriminating emails or no emails or send emails or fuck emails or anything else.
I should have stayed under sedation.

(309 posts)contributor to her loss. There were many issues but Hillary was weathering them. When Comey made that vague announcement, it sunk the campaign because it forced Hillary into limbo where she couldn't defend herself while Trump's campaign spun lie after lie about Hillary's status. Remember Faux News reporting "Indictment likely?" That was devastating and untrue. But once something like that is released, it's difficult to put back in the bottle.

She was way up with 11 days to go. The polls weren't wrong--they changed.
And Comey is the one who changed them. He did what Donald Trump couldn't do for himself.

(429 posts)The Democratic Party has yet again ignored the criminality of the Republican Party. Here we are with a 3rd stolen presidential election. The Democrats are so pathetic that they will not stand up for the citizens who attempted to vote for them. Their silence on the Jim Crow voter suppression of the African American vote is shameful. Their ignoring of the vote flipping by the privately owned electronic voting machines is disgraceful. If Harry Reid really wants to do something, start with declaring that Trump didn't win the election. Because, he sure as in hell, didn't.
