Donald Trump chooses Rick Perry to be energy secretary

Source: CBS News

Donald Trump has selected Rick Perry to be energy secretary, according to two sources directly involved in the transition and selection process.

He had been summoned to Trump Tower for a meeting Monday to discuss the position after having been contacted over the weekend. The meeting was only finalized on Sunday.

The other contenders for the position were Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, and Ray Washburne, a key Trump fundraiser, former RNC finance chair, restaurateur and investor in oil and gas operations.

The former Texas governor sits on two corporate boards - one of them is Energy Transfer Partners - and that may present a confirmation issue. Energy Transfer Partners has a subsidiary known as Dakota Access LLC, which is attempting to build the Dakota Access Pipeline. That Dakota Access Pipeline has been the subject of public protests over its potential environmental impact and damage to Native American lands.

Perry has been tapped to lead an agency he has suggested should be shut down. Although when Perry ran for the 2012 GOP nomination, during a debate, he famously forgot the name one of the three agencies he had pledged to eliminate.

“The third agency of government I would -- I would do away with Education, the --Commerce...Commerce and, let’s see. I can’t. The third one, I can’t. Sorry -- oops,” he said.

With Exxon as Secretary of State, Texas running Energy, and Republicans controlling all branches of government, we can expect to see removal of all environmental protections and a massive surge in drilling and pipeline development. Any protests will be immediately and brutally suppressed.

think the DOE has something to do with using oil and natural gas OR renewables.

While the DOE does do something with both Fusion energy as a electric source and funds the NREL (renewable lab)... it has very little to do with energy.

Sigh.

But, the reason they didn't vote isn't because "both candidates were flawed". Rather, they didn't vote out of pure apathy.

//It was just too much trouble to drive to the polling place, or sit down and read all that ballot stuff and fill out a mail-in ballot, or cancel poker night. Heck, lots of other people are voting. This is a controversial election and "everyone" will be out there. This Trump thing will take care of itself.
