Rex Tillerson named as Donald Trump's secretary of state

Source: The Guardian

Rex Tillerson, the president and chief executive of Exxon Mobil, has been officially named as Donald Trump’s choice for secretary of state, the president-elect’s transition team has said.

“His tenacity, broad experience and deep understanding of geopolitics make him an excellent choice for secretary of state,” Trump said in the team’s statement. “He will promote regional stability and focus on the core national security interests of the United States.”

Tillerson’s confirmation hearings in the Senate are likely to be a bitter and emotional struggle. He is a recipient of Moscow’s Order of Friendship, having grown close to Putin and his circle while working on oil exploration in Russia, which was frozen when the US imposed sanctions in 2014.

The Kremlin praised Tillerson on Monday. “On account of his work as the head of one of the largest oil companies, he had contacts with our representatives more than once,” Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told journalists. “He fulfils his responsibilities in a highly professional manner.”

are and as soon as they come out in public be willing to blast the Russian National Anthem. They need to be hounded with that music. And people don't have to be close to Trump if they can blast the music loud enough. That is the first thing that Trump should hear every time he leaves a building.

The same should happen to McConnell and anybody else that helped to hide the Russian involvement in our election.

Could you imagine people unfurling the Russian flag everywhere around Trump and company? Imagine people outside of Trump Tower holding the US flag upside down? The Russian Flag could be printed on large sticky paperand stuck on all of Trump's buildings.

I especially don't understand the Tillerson pick. His only expertise is oil and that's something I've never even heard mentioned by a Secretary of State. We've got to see Trump's tax returns. Is delivering our country to Vlad a way to have billions of dollars of debt go away for Trump? Something's up and it's got nothing to do with running this country.

A deal is a deal is a deal is a deal, right?

Corporate dealmaking narrowly focused on maximizing private profits on behalf of shareholders is hardly similar to diplomatic negotiations regarding national interests that may include human rights, civil liberties, environmental concerns, international borders, disputed territories, cessation of hostilities, differing political and religious ideologies, etc.
