Panetta: Trump Risks Blame For Any Attacks If He Skips Intel Briefings

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published DECEMBER 14, 2016, 9:55 AM EDT

Former CIA director and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said on Wednesday that if President-elect Donald Trump refuses to receive regular intelligence briefings, he risks being blamed in the wake of any potential attack on the United States.

Panetta told the Arab Strategy Forum that he has "never seen" a president with Trump's active aversion to intelligence briefings, according to Reuters.

"If we endure another attack and the intelligence officials had indications or information regarding that attack and the president did not want to listen to that, for whatever reason, the responsibility for that attack would fall on the president," he said.

Panetta reportedly told the forum that Trump's refusal of presidential intelligence briefings "can't last."

Have we really learned anything?

Have to hope we don't find out on this one.

there is reality and then there is the country we now live in.

See, 9-11 wasn't Bush's fault, it was Clinton's fault for not getting OBL by only launching missle strike (while republicans in congress were all up in has about how much he was overplaying the threat of islamic terrorists to take away from the MUCH MORE IMPORTANT issue, the scandal over his getting a blow job).

Meanwhile, in 2004, this country just HAD to reelect Bush II because he kept us safe.

But sure, Trump, not BHO, will be to blame if something happens.

THAT.

it easier for Trump to blame somebody else. Flynn is getting the briefings, so he will be the scapegoat if anything goes wrong.

Trumps may not be smart - but he is sly.

.....keeping out of it. He'll get a briefing and make it all worse----he'll stir any hornets nest in any way he wants. He'll figure out how to profit from the information or how to help a crony. He'll inflame any situation.

We're marginally better off, safer, by leaving it to the vile, but not floridly mentally ill, people he's gathered around him.

that refused to take a stand against the man which is most of them as they cared more about gaining more power than the country and the people in it.

it will be blamed on Obama & Clinton first, then whoever is in charge of the NSA, then the CIA, then the FBI, etc, etc.
