WASHINGTON Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, and a colleague called upon the nations law enforcement and personnel management executives to review whether President-elect Donald Trumps pick to be national security adviser should have a top secret clearance.
Shaheen and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., wrote to the FBI director, White House director of personnel management and director of national intelligence questioning whether Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn should have this exclusive access to U.S. secrets given claims that Flynn leaked documents and owns a private intelligence company that has built-in conflicts of interest to his upcoming job.
Based on public reports, his conduct in positions that require access to national defense information, and his subsequent private practice, appears inconsistent with the professionalism such access requires, Shaheen and Blumenthal wrote.
General Flynn reportedly has a record of mishandling classified intelligence and repeatedly violated rules for protecting sensitive information.

(9,114 posts)the cigar chomping was LeMay's schtick, not Powers'.
" General Curtis LeMay was responsible for putting together SAC, or Strategic Air Command, which gave our country nation killing capabilities as well wrestling control for the button away from the President. LeMay is probably not only the inspiration for General Buck Turgidson in Dr. Strangelove, but Base Commander Jack D. Ripper as well. One of the most Ruthless m***ers in history, LeMay oversaw the fire-bombing of Tokyo where more than 300,000 people died. To give you a sense of scale, about 200,000 people died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. LeMay of course, was also involved with dropping both of the big bombs. "

Generally those on the related committees send these types of requests (on behalf of). This is McCain's committee (he is chair) and Graham is on there too. The Dems -
