China's Navy seizes American underwater drone in South China Sea

Source: Reuters

A Chinese Navy warship has seized an underwater drone deployed by an American oceanographic vessel in international waters in the South China Sea, triggering a formal diplomatic protest from the United States and a demand for its return, a U.S. defense official told Reuters on Friday.

The incident, the first of its kind in recent memory, took place on Dec. 15 northwest of Subic Bay off the Philippines just as the USNS Bowditch, an oceanographic survey ship, was about to retrieve the unmanned, underwater vehicle (UUV), the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"The UUV was lawfully conducting a military survey in the waters of the South China Sea," the official said.

"It's a sovereign immune vessel, clearly marked in English not to be removed from the water - that it was U.S. property."

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]He blew up diplomatic relations with China by not only insulting them but also by talking to Taiwan. Now China is retaliating. That's my theory, anyway.

Why couldn't you wait until the one that caused this took power? Obama didn't have anything to do with drumpfs stupid call from Taiwan, chalk that one up to his orangesnesses perennial pursuit of $$ for himself and screw everything else.

its all being done as a distraction for the masses in China as the Chinese economy is on the edge of going under even worse than the US did so the ones in power are afraid that if they dont do something to distract the people that they will literally lose their heads over it.

The Taiwan incident pushed it along, I would think.

But we have been building up and flexing our military presence near China for years now.

Look it up, find good sources, and read all about it.

They won't draft me, but I would expect the same sort of rationing that occurred in WW2.

And, if things go badly enough,if they have to draft me, a 70-something-year-old veteran, then we are in some deep doodoo.

Anybody who does not know much about the Neocons, better start educating themselves NOW, as to who they are, waht they want, and which parties they dominate. That's just being well-informed.

Don't stay in the dark.
===============================================================================
We're really in it, now.

If you look past the partisanship (which is absolutely rabid now), you can perceive that, on both sides,
The Establishment Wants War.

I wonder how long America can continue on this war-path, without re-imposing The Draft.
We are going to need soldiers. Unless we change direction on foreign policy, and work with other nations,
which seems not so likely at this point.

Got any kids?

They may be needed to fight the Next War.

Is everybody ready for that?

And, one way or another, against someone,
it iscoming.

Can't you feel it?

The Neoconservatives scream for stepped-up war by the US in Syria.

The Neoconservatives call Russia a weakling and seem to desire rolling right over them, at least policywise,
in order to achieve American goals, which are justifiable beyond any question or debate.

Russia is seen, rightly or wrongly (but still without official release of proof in this monumental matter, which could ultimately lead to war), as an enemy, not only of America, but of the Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, Trump loads his administration with Iran War-Hawks.

America, for several years, has been running the biggest military build-up seen in the Pacific
since WWII. Funny, but I haven't seen that on either Fox OR MSNBC.

NATO, which was intended to be defensive entity, is now being greatly expanded in order to
PROJECT US power. We keep opening bases all over the place, including in the corridor Russia was invaded by Germany
through in WWII. Is that really OK?

Perhaps we should ask Russia to close-down all the military bases they've built that surround the US?
(Please feel free to look them up----How many there are, where they are located, etc).

Obama fails to veto or stop the re-instatement of the 1991 sanctions against Iran --imposed for no real reason-- undermining his own Iran deal (which was done, almost certainly, and courageously, IMO, in opposition to insider Neocons).
In reaction, Iran has said they will now work to develop nuclear naval vessels.

Now, an outgoing Obama backtracks----towards war?
Why?

The real shocker is that this re-imposition of Iran sanctions newly empowers Trump to move against Iran.

Russia is sure to oppose any war by the US against Iran, Iran being a kind of "buffer state" for them.

What a mess---Russia, Iran, China, and a US that assumes it is entirely right and justified to do whatever it pleases,
with no debate whatsoever. We are, as the Neoconservatives have said, "The Indispensable Nation".

Still feel that way with Trump at the helm?

Meanwhile, US Conservatives (esp with a Christian bent) thirst for a war on Islam.

I think I am angry at almost everyone now.

Except for those who put PEACE as their biggest issue.

Not so many of those folks around anymore, are there?

The way it normally works out:
- The USA files a protest via the State Department, then China gives back whatever it took.
- Meanwhile a destroyer gets parked along side the research ship causing China to mind its manners.
