Swiss shooting: Three wounded near Zurich Islamic centre

Three people have been hurt in a gun attack near a Muslim prayer centre in the Swiss city of Zurich.

Police confirmed an operation was under way in a street close to the city's main station.

Swiss reports said the three wounded were all adults who had been found in Eisgasse, a small street where an Islamic centre is based.

There was no indication who carried out the shooting but local media said the attacker had fled the scene.

Three were injured during the shooting, which took place after a man entered the Islamic center of Eisgasse at about 5:30 p.m. local time, police said in a statement. The victims, men aged 30, 35 and 56, have been hospitalized, the police said. The dead body of another person was found later, just a few minutes’ walk from the shooting scene, it said. It’s unclear if the two episodes are linked.

According to the DPA news agency, police believe the lorry drove 50-80 metres (54-87 yards) through the market area during the incident, which occurred at 20:14 local time (19:14 GMT).
