JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Mississippi authorities arrested a man Wednesday in the burning of an African-American church that was also spray-painted with the words, "Vote Trump."
Andrew McClinton of Leland, Mississippi, was charged with first degree arson of a place of worship, said Warren Strain, spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. McClinton is African-American.
McClinton was arrested in Greenville, where Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church was burned and vandalized Nov. 1, a week before the presidential election

(160,515 posts)You continue to strike me as having an odd sense of reality that's blended far too much with active imagination (as with your continued defense of a bloody dictatorship in Venezuela).
A picture was requested and I found a picture.

What does this post have to do with Venezuela, could you tell me?

(10,362 posts)You accused him of racism without a shred of evidence. Are baseless attacks against liberals how we do things around here?

(35,293 posts)Look, on Nov. 2 when this was posted all over DU, DU was moderate. Other issues were at hand, but even then the assumption was it was KKK/Trump/white nationalists of some sort. The typical set of a-factual assumptions, because most church arson cases that are solved turn out to be either a member, an employee, or a close neighbor. That holds true for black-church arsons, where most cases solved have the perps be a member, an employee, or a close neighbor (meaning, in other words, black).
To get a clear picture of the actual facts, the actual data (instead of what stokes outrage and indignation) it's good to know that in this particular case, as in every other particular case that's solved, what the facts are.
The base assumption (and that word 'base' has two meanings here) was it was a white Trump supporter. That's background knowledge for future judgments. But in this case that assumption was false, and I, personally, like to know when my assumptions are wrong and are likely to lead to flawed judgments. A cognitively easy but usually flawed way of thinking assumes what you see is all there is--and if you select what you see or allow others to select what you see because, well, we don't point out the sins of our own congregation, you're feeding a bias. It's a cognitive bias, but all racial biases are subsets of cognitive biases.

(8,303 posts)Hopewell Bishop Clarence Green said McClinton is a member of the church. Green said he didn't know about the arrest until he was called by The Associated Press.
The church members have to be relieved. That would be HELL.
And yes, he's black:

They say the motive wasn't political. For all we know, this man has a mental illness, or there is a church dispute, or something weirder.

(374 posts)"vote trump" spray painted on church. Not political! Duh. WTF?
Am I still on planet earth or am I dreaming?

(374 posts)He was also a "black" as trump refers to african americans [the blacks, he leaves the words person, man, women, out, when addressing them].
Sort of like ross perot's "you people" statement.
The republicans will blame the democrats for it. Bet my ass on it.

Racism requires exhibiting the hatred. Their tiny brains will explode if they can't relieve themselves by dumping it all out in front of living, sane people. It's a form of flashing.

(2,919 posts)One man, so far. Did he have guidance from "others"? Did he hear others in the congregation talk about wanting a new church, but don't have enough money? Don't know much for now, but speculation, and what he did coupled with the $ flowing in leads to questions about motive.
ETA: Like one of above posters commenting about another poster's "gleeful" post. Mirror, perhaps?
