Democrats plot collision course with Trumps tax plan

Source: MSN/Bloomberg

WASHINGTON –– Congressional Democrats say they’ll try to thwart Republican plans to overhaul the U.S. tax code by portraying them as a boon for the rich that betrays President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign promise to fight for working Americans.

“There’s going to be opposition if these tax cuts are directed to the people at the top again,” said Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., who represents his party’s first line of defense as the ranking Democrat on the House’s tax-writing Ways and Means Committee. “We’re going to be pretty united.”

Neal and others say they’ll zero in on upper-income tax breaks pitched by Trump and Republican House leaders in an attempt to make it politically difficult for them to support large parts of the emerging plans. Their initial comments suggest that the 115th Congress, which convenes Jan. 3 with a Republican-led agenda of instituting a broad tax overhaul and repealing Obamacare, will be peppered with debate over income inequality.

* * *

An independent analysis of House Republicans’ “blueprint” found that while households at all income levels would pay less tax, “the highest-income households would receive the largest cuts, both in dollars and as a percentage of income.” After-tax incomes of the very rich — the top 0.1 percent of U.S. earners, or those with incomes over $3.7 million — would rise by almost 17 percent. At the same time, the bottom three-fifths of households would gain on average 0.5 percent or less, according to the analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a a joint venture of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution. Three quarters of the total tax cuts would go to the top 1 percent, that study found.

Do Bernie Sanders and the Democrats have a strategy for reaching the Breitbart/Alex Jones/Fox News audience who will only hear about Trump's huge tax cut to the middle class?

They will not hear how the largest cut would be to the top rate from 39.6 to 33 percent or that this rate only applies to those with incomes well within the top 1 percent. Likewise, the working class white, Republican leaning individual who gets most of their news from Facebook will not hear how the abolishment of the estate tax, which applies only to estates worth more than $5.45 million for individuals and $10.9 million for couples would only apply to less than 1 percent of the people who die each year pay any estate tax.

How are Bernie and the Democrats going to reach the millions on WND, Breitbart, Alex Jones, Fox New and Limbaugh who will only hear about how the abolition of the estate tax will benefit mom and pop farmers? If Democrats cannot reach the millions of people who are protected from facts or reality, then the Republicans white working class base will cheerfully march in support of these cuts so long as they include monies dedicated to building a wall, persecuting lesbians and gays, or stripping voting rights from minorities.

Put another way, how does Bernie Sander reach those who are receiving their information from WND, Breitbart, Alex Jones, Fox New and Limbaugh when their President is telling them that traditional media outlets are fake news?

---Or "Social Security"....Tell the TRUTH about it..
---WHY a narcissistic, sociopathic megalomaniac should NOT have top secret information !!
-- Just WHO are all those Cabinet Appointees and why are they a danger to all human beings!! Just say it..

The point being, again, nobody is out there saying stuff....

I've already seen this discussed elsewhere on DU, in a different context, but this discovery is worth repeating.

Below is the inspiring article and a link to the actual download for the strategic manual for implementation. Did you know that the Tea Party started with only about 100 passionate voters? They got active amongst themselves, engaged with social media, went to public hearings and townhall meetings, contacted their congressmen, complained to the press when their elected officials brushed them aside...Never mind their candidate shut down the federal government with GREEN EGGS AND HAM! Their playbook is nothing short of genius!

Why can't WE do that? If a bunch of obtuse-minded, bible-thumping "low-value" voters could transform their grassroots movement into a national political machine, think of what WE could do with their strategy and perseverance!

Complaining about Trump and the spineless Dems in Congress feels good for the moment, but nothing is gonna change without us. "We, the People" need to be fighting our own battles, one town hall meeting, one local meetup, and one call to our congressman at a time, over and over and over and...

Also there is a person in the background finger pointing.

Keep in mind that the rich don't have to pay social security after a certain amount of their income while the average american reaches that limit.

Trump has a Republican-controlled Congress behind him, and he'll soon nominate another ultra-conservative to replace Scalia on the Supreme Court.

Senate Democrats won't be able to filibuster Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy when the bill comes to the Senate because the GOP will use the "nuclear option" to shut them up.

The only thing Senate Democrats can do is to use the filibuster for Trump's SCOTUS pick because the "nuclear option" supposedly does allow for Dems to filibuster that.

Trump will get everything he wants, thanks to Comey, Putin, GOP voter suppression; and Hillary's failure to call for recounts in all the battleground states, including Florida & Ohio, on November 9th.

It doesn't matter how hard Bernie Sanders & the Dems try to "reach the millions" to expose Trump's tax cuts for the rich....the new tax bill will sail through Congress like shit through a goose.

Unfortunately this scenario has been occurring for decades and exhibits no evidence of abating - if anything it's gaining momentum. The republiCONS are masters of messaging and media control. The Dems have no effective responses or even the means to effectively market such messaging if they somehow managed to devise some.

This is going to create huge tax deficits, which then give the Republicans the talking point that spending cuts to social programs are needed. So the right wing lunatics on food stamps (SNAP), better find another alternative to food!

From the link below:

The revenue losses understate the total effect on the national debt because they do not include the additional interest that would accrue as a result. Including interest costs, the proposal would add $11.2 trillion to the national debt by 2026 and $34.1 trillion by 2036 (table 4 and figure 1). Assuming the tax cuts are not offset by spending cuts, the national debt would rise by an estimated 39 percent of GDP in 2026 and by nearly 80 percent of GDP by 2036.

The Holidays have been eye-opening hearing where my Trump supporting relatives get their news. Facebook? Really?

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/wielding-claims-of-%e2%80%98fake-news%e2%80%99-conservatives-take-aim-at-mainstream-media/ar-BBxyHeI?li=BBnbcA1&ocid=UE01DHP

WASHINGTON — The C.I.A., the F.B.I. and the White House may all agree that Russia was behind the hacking that interfered with the election. But that was of no import to the website Breitbart News, which dismissed reports on the intelligence assessment as “left-wing fake news.”

Rush Limbaugh has diagnosed a more fundamental problem. “The fake news is the everyday news” in the mainstream media, he said on his radio show recently. “They just make it up.”

Some supporters of President-elect Donald J. Trump have also taken up the call. As reporters were walking out of a Trump rally this month in Orlando, Fla., a man heckled them with shouts of “Fake news!”

Until now, that term had been widely understood to refer to fabricated news accounts that are meant to spread virally online. But conservative cable and radio personalities, top Republicans and even Mr. Trump himself, incredulous about suggestions that that fake stories may have helped swing the election, have appropriated the term and turned it against any news they see as hostile to their agenda.

Is there is enough legislative power residing in our Party at that level now? I'm truly worried what the racists, sexists, hateful people at that level will do. How to fight them? Mass demonstrations, overwhelming email and text messages to individual trumpfuhrer party members and RNC? Social media is a weapon, that's all I can surmise.
