Report: Netanyahu to be investigated for bribery, fraud
Source: Times of Israel
A months-long inquiry into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus affairs took a new twist on Monday, with police reportedly convinced that they will be able to open a full-blown criminal investigation against him in the next few days.
Police recently received new documents as part of a secret inquiry that began almost nine months ago, Channel 2 reported. Based on thpse files police have already turned to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit requesting that he allow them to open a full criminal investigation. The report stated that among the suspected offenses are bribe-taking and aggravated fraud.
A spokesperson for the prime minister said that its all nonsense, Haaretz reported. Since Netanyahus victory in the last elections and even before, hostile elements have used heroic efforts to attempt to bring about [Netanyahus] downfall, with false accusations against him and his family. This [latest attempt] is absolutely false. There was nothing and there will be nothing.
In June, it was reported that Israel Police Chief Roni Alsheich gave his go-ahead on the secret investigation by special police unit Lahav 433, but that he had demanded full cooperation on secrecy and that no details be leaked to the media.

Only take a little bit of crafted media 'stories', propaganda to start the ball rolling.

(22,651 posts)every Republican to Israel for closed door 'meetings' in Israel last year. remember Republicans had him over in washington dc and met with him. Had him make a speech. Republicans invest in Israel, new homes are gaining mortgages. more settlements, more new home loans are good for investments. (there will be a mortgage bust in a decade, guaranteed)
Our country needed a couple more years of a humane president.

(59,501 posts)To at least one investigation. Trump settled the investigato on into Trump university. Scneiderman, the NY AG, is still investigating the Trump Foundation.
Netanyahu has been investigated for more than a decade. It seems he, at minimum, stretches what is legal.

(10,495 posts)Wall Street got a pass for massive world-wide fraud and continues to do so, sometimes paying a relatively small fine when word leaked out. The Pentagon lost over a billion dollars and they cannot even get an audit, much less indictments. Washington is awash in Quid Pro Quo's and NO ONE is looking into that! D.A.'s fail to indict bad cops, or when public pressure is too high and they must, they usually still fail to convict these same cops even when there is clear video evidence of a crime.
It works a different way too. Marijuana is listed as a schedule 1 drug, no medicinal or other value, when the evidence is clear that it is a wonder drug. That is because powerful Lobby's like Law Enforcement, private prisons, alcohol manufacturers, and drug companies do not want a loss in profit, or in the case of Law Enforcement, huge cuts in manpower and money.
BP intentionally cut corners on the Deepwater Horizon to the point that Trans Ocean and Haliburton objected to what they wanted to do. BP told them to do it or look for other oil companies to work for. This argument occurred on the rig the day of the explosion. The only ones charged were a couple of poor sacrificial mid-level guys. Eric Holder refused to revoke the probation BP was under for killing 15 and injuring 6,000 in 2005 in Texas City, and in fact let BP off early retroactively before the Deepwater Horizon explosion.
The media would not report the truth of the aftermath for fear of losing all of the ad dollars BP started spending after the spill.
All of this stems from the root problem in our Democracy, we allow legal bribery of our elected officials!

Putin and Trump will head the two most powerful countries in the world. Israel is nowhere near that level.

(26,614 posts)must be all that American cash. In Bibi's mind, he's the 51st state with all the benefits and none of the obligations. trumpers love Bibi as much as Putin, at least that's what I hear from my brain dead nephew. We all have to get our news somewhere.

(59,501 posts)are the big dog. We had a maltese who barked at all the big dogs and scared the deer away. He never saw that he was just 7 pounds.
More seriously, the American media treats Netanyahu with the respect that decades ago was routinely given the President. I was shocked that the media reported the Netanyahu charges against Kerry and Obama when he lied while they were working with the international community to get a ceasefire in Gaza, before Netanyahu wanted one.
Here is what Netanyahu did. Kerry, representing Obama was in Paris where various countries were working on a ceasefire. Israel chose not to go. Because the US and Israel do not speak to Hamas - the other side of the conflict, Hamas passed its proposal to the Paris based group. As happens in this intentional game of "telephone", the Hamas proposal given to the group was then sent to Netanyahu for his counter proposal by Kerry. Rather than make a counter proposal, Netanyahu dishonestly went to the Knesset, called it the US proposal and got a vote condemning it. The Israeli media covered it more honestly than the US media did. ( I guess Kerry should have tweeted he told Netanyahu that "friends do not lie about the position of their friend". )
The problem is that Israel has moved far from its roots and is now pretty right wing. Netanyahu's cabinet contains many people - as much as half - to his right. He needs to maintain support from 60 members of the Knesset to stay in power. (The United list (the Israeli Arabs) have 20 seats - and other than Meretz, which has (I think 6 seats) - no party would be in a government with the Arabs. Meretz is the party on the left that praised the resolution. ) Netanyahu has tried to get Herzog, the leader of Zionist Union to join his coalition and he has refused and even had he agreed many in his party, which combined Labor and Kadima, were unwilling to go with him. This means that Netanyahu could not jettison the right wing half of his coalition and replace them with people on the left - and his number one goal is seen as Netanyahu remaining as Prime Minister.
(I welcome anyone who understands these parties better correcting what I wrote - especially Israelis.)

Yes, Kerry and Obama should have responded, and that would have been a perfect tweet.
