The Latest: Trump says US will buy, hire American

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) The Latest on President-elect Donald Trump (all times EST):
10:55 a.m.
President-elect Donald Trump has tweeted that his administration will buy American and hire American.
Trump has made the promise before. His tweet Thursday morning follows news that fewer Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, continuing a nearly two-year trend that suggests his administration is inheriting a solid job market.
And it follows his comments Wednesday praising plans by a Japanese mogul to bring jobs to the U.S.
Trump tweeted: My administration will follow two simple rules: BUY AMERICAN and HIRE AMERICAN! #USA.

Just another Trump lie...

(9,688 posts)As a tiny example, Federal employees on official trips are required to fly American carriers. This has been a rule for DECADES.
I am already tired of Trump's misrepresentation and lies - and he isn't even president yet.

What non-Americans (aside from interpreters in war zones overseas, etc.) does DJT think we hire in the US government? And which contracts for goods and services is he going to scuttle?

(9,350 posts)Didn't Trump's own company just ask for waivers to hire foreign workers? Also, aren't Republicans already trying to end the buy American provision in U.S. law?

(3,063 posts)Trump Vineyard Estates LLC filed a request Dec. 2 with the Labor Department for six H2 visas, which permit U.S. employers to hire foreigners for seasonal jobs such as pruning grapevines, which is what the request said. The request was posted online by the Labor Department on Wednesday and first reported by BuzzFeed News.
The workers are needed to prune the vines on the estate, the Labor application said, and they would be paid $10.72 per hour for a 40-hour, six-day week. The jobs are anticipated to last from January to June.

Federal ethics experts for former Democratic and Republican administrations warned Thursday that President-elect Donald Trump is creating a major conflict of interest by allowing his Virginia vineyard to seek special temporary visas for foreign workers.
Trump, who is president of the Charlottesville vineyard that applied this month for H2 visas for six foreign workers, will soon run the U.S. government, which determines whether to grant those visas.

I don't want to throw anyone under the bus, but it is hundreds of thousands of jobs across many areas. Are they going to require Americans to be the cleaning and maintenance and food service staff too?

He won't buy American because there's too much stuff that is no longer made here, like the sheets and towels in the White House. He won't force his cronies to hire Americans because they'll scream about having to pay prevailing wages.
