Sean Spicer Suggests Trump Might Replace Regular Press Conferences With Twitter, Facebook

Source: Mediaite

Incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer suggested in an interview with conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt that president-elect Donald Trump might replace regular presidential press conferences with chats on Twitter and Facebook.

“Do you expect him to keep up a regular and as energetic a series of press conferences as previous presidents?” Hewitt asked Thursday. “Do you expect him to be more or less engaged than previous presidents with that setting, that formal East Room setting sort of thing?”

“That’s a good question,” responded Spicer, “because I think the thing that you’ve seen with Donald Trump is that he doesn’t look to the past and say ‘I’ve got to conform to these precedents.’ He figures out what’s the best way. And so maybe we do a series of press conferences, but maybe we do some town hall, you know, Facebook town halls. Maybe we go out and solicit input from Twitter. I don’t– the answer is we’re looking at a lot of things,” he continued.

Spicer did say that Trump wouldn’t do away with press conferences entirely, calling them “part of the fabric of our country” that they “have to sort of do.” But he argued that Trump’s millions of social media followers awarded “some new opportunities we can be utilizing to bring more people into the process and have a conservation with the American people, and not just limit it through the filter of the mainstream media.”

who came to the briefings?

That was the first time I ever saw a President's people putting pressure on correspondents to spin the "news" favorably for the President, and that seemed absolutely shocking.

It's a fact, however, that even though most people didn't know it, Ronald Reagan used his man in the Office of Public Diplomacy, Otto Reich, a Cuban right-wing "exile" to bear down on the press, intimidating them, starting gossip about the private lives of the ones he didn't like who weren't giving them the spins they wanted on the Contra War in Nicaragua, claiming they were getting sex and information from bad sources in Central America, even claiming some of them were having gay affairs there. He also bore down on editors and publishers.

You may recall it was mirrored when Ari Fleisher claimed the White House was noting everything the reporters were doing, trying to frigfhten them into line, causing them to write only the crap the right-wing wanted published.

We have NEVER heard of a Democratic President trying to control what the media tells the US taxpayers and citizens.

To step out ahead of the media, and try to beat them to the stories by giving out his own version of everything is the lowest, dirtiest thing we would ever hear from a President, even worse than the Republicans before him.

How would we Americans or the rest of the world know it was even Trump messaging and not a puppet master (Putin?) pushing the messages through.

And that's because he has no idea what he's doing. When he tries to answer substantive questions all by himself he reveals his ignorance and makes an ass out of himself and every last fool who voted for him.
