Children scream 'just stop' in 911 call from lawmaker's home

Source: Associated Press

Updated 4:17 pm, Friday, December 30, 2016

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — Children can be heard screaming "just stop daddy" on a 911 call made from the home of a South Carolina legislator accused of beating his wife and pointing a gun at her, local media reported Friday.

Republican Rep. Chris Corley, of Graniteville, is charged with first-degree criminal domestic violence and pointing a firearm at a person. If convicted, the felonies could send him to prison for up to 15 years.

Corley's wife told deputies he stopped hitting her late Monday only after noticing she was bleeding and hearing the screams of two of their three children, ages 2 and 8.

Corley said his wife tried to punch him after accusing him of cheating, and the police report noted a scratch on his forehead. It's unclear if Corley, an attorney, has hired a lawyer. He has not returned voicemails from The Associated Press.

. . .

The 36-year-old Republican was easily re-elected to a second term last month with no opposition.

that line that got me
we need to field opposition even if it's a goddam forlorn hope, even if the only candidate we can find is some carpetbagger from D.C.

at least show the appearance of making them compete for their jobs

That's when the cries 'It costs money' arise. Let us know, and we'll help fund such candidates.

are moderate-to-conservative Democrats.

Thing is, they'll vote for the stuff that matters if it means they will get some of the bundled re-election cash from the DSCC or DHCC.

Those of us who are blue dots in red districts know the reality on the ground. Our only prayer is a moderate or conservative Dem and yes, we can get pretty darned excited at the prospect of electing one. It gets very tiresome to constantly hear the put-downs from solidly blue staters. You are not one, and I love you for it!

And I do feel for people in your situation.

It is easy to get a bit high-horsey if your state is pretty reliably blue, like mine is -- with the exception of the governor's office. For some reason, we keep switching off from Dem to GOP. The latest governor we have is the dumbest Republican fuck in town--he makes Romney look smart.

Thing is, we can survive them, because the legislature keeps them in check (most days).

I'm grateful that guys like Jon Tester have the charisma to WIN in rural/conservative strongholds, and I'm not about to make the perfect the enemy of the good.

became unreliable when it counted. They got power-swooned by Dumbya and his crew, the idiots.

They acted up at the END of their careers--for the most part, in their earlier years, within the confines of their states' expectations for them, they toed the party line on most issues, and cooperated with vote counting/trading to advance the D agenda.

I never liked Zell but he wasn't an a-hole until late in his career. I have never forgotten this stirring speech he made at the 1992 Democratic Convention:

I know what Dan Quayle means when he says it's best for children to have two parents. You bet it is! And it would be nice for them to have trust funds, too. We can't all be born rich and handsome and lucky. And that's why we have a Democratic Party. My family would still be isolated and destitute if we had not had F.D.R.'s Democratic brand of government. I made it because Franklin Delano Roosevelt energized this nation. I made it because Harry Truman fought for working families like mine. I made it because John Kennedy's rising tide lifted even our tiny boat. I made it because Lyndon Johnson showed America that people who were born poor didn't have to die poor. And I made it because a man with whom I served in the Georgia Senate, a man named Jimmy Carter, brought honesty and decency and integrity to public service.

I understand that Zell has Altzheimer's now, and I wonder if he was in the early stages when he denounced the party, changed from pro-choice to pro-life, and co-sponsored the Federal Marriage Amendment.

Back to your point, he served GA well as Governor, and would be remembered favorably if he had not been appointed to the Senate and essentially become a republican.

I was working in Europe in a great job where I actually had satellite television in my office (needless to say, it kept me at work longer than I might have stayed--I even had a "sleeping couch" in my office--LOL). I thought that was one helluva barn-burner.

People are often not all one thing. I've gotta say, though, that Trump has pretty much been a selfish and sexist asshole all his life. Certainly an exception to the rule, and a danger to us all....

The Speaker of the House has already said he will be suspended immediately if indicted, which will happen, and he will them be removed from office as soon as he pleads or is found guilty. He has already had to surrender any guns he owns.
So no, he won't be promoted.

This guy wouldn't be much different than drumpf's other cabinet choices.

On 2nd thought, WTF, prejudice and air of superiority? Um, let me see, he's supposedly a devout christian. He cheated on his wife, and when confronted beat her to a pulp, and pointed a loaded gun at her. You seem to think that this is OK? Really? So, yeah, we are better than that, but so are most people. I have no idea what you are defending, but am pretty sure I would totally disagree with anyone who stood up for an asshat like this SC Repug.

He was suspended from office within an hour of being indicted yesterday. As soon as he pleas he will be removed and will never be able to own a firearm again.
Is that misogynous enough?
