Jerry Falwell Jr. Asked to Lead Trump Higher Education Task Force
Source: NBC NEWS
Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., one of the nation's most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, has been asked to head a White House task force on reforming the U.S. higher education system, the Virginia college told NBC News on Tuesday night.
Len Stevens, the university's chief spokesman, told NBC News that Falwell would bring a focus on "overregulation and micromanagement of higher education" to the task force.
...
He has said he was offered the position of education secretary in the Trump administration late last year but declined because he wanted to stay close to his family in Lynchburg, Virginia, where the university is based. He enthusiastically endorsed Trump's eventual nominee, Betsy DeVos.
...
Falwell was one of the first major evangelical leaders to endorse Donald Trump's presidential campaign, along with James Dobson, founder of Family Talk Radio and the advocacy group Focus on the Family; Tony Perkins, president of the Christian conservative Family Research Council; and Ralph Reed, chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition and former executive director of evangelist Pat Robertson's Christian Coalition.

(48,965 posts)I think Falwell will generate lots of heat, very little light, and a big stink. I don't think it will get much traction, except in a few christo-dominionist-Republicon states.
tRump is doing his level best to split the nation. Extreme polarization wasn't enough for Bannon-Putin's golden-haired boy.

I thought we got rid of this crap in the 80s. I think churches are not doing well and they are making a last push.
What an unusual time we are in. Fighting to stop a physical wall at our southern border and having to work hard on keeping the wall between state and government.

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. said he will lead two new presidential task forces to be created by President Donald Trump to reform the Department of Education.
Ive been in conversations with {presidential adviser} Steve Bannon and others, and the president is forming some education task forces that Ive been asked to head, Falwell said Tuesday.
Falwell said there would be two presidential task forces on education, and he would lead both.
He added the role would direct the transformation of the Department of Education policies under the Trump administration. Falwell did not have a timeline for when the task forces would be launched but expected it to be very soon in keeping with Trumps quick approach to governance.
