Leaked Draft of Trumps Religious Freedom Order Reveals Sweeping Plans to Legalize Discrimination

If signed, the order would create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity.

A leaked copy of a draft executive order titled Establishing a Government-Wide Initiative to Respect Religious Freedom, obtained by The Investigative Fund and The Nation, reveals sweeping plans by the Trump administration to legalize discrimination.

The four-page draft order, a copy of which is currently circulating among federal staff and advocacy organizations, construes religious organizations so broadly that it covers any organization, including closely held for-profit corporations, and protects religious freedom in every walk of life: when providing social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts; or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with Federal, State or local governments.

The draft order seeks to create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious or moral objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity, and it seeks to curtail womens access to contraception and abortion through the Affordable Care Act. The White House did not respond to requests for comment, but when asked Monday about whether a religious freedom executive order was in the works, White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters, Im not getting ahead of the executive orders that we may or may not issue. There is a lot of executive orders, a lot of things that the president has talked about and will continue to fulfill, but we have nothing on that front now.

Language in the draft document specifically protects the tax-exempt status of any organization that believes, speaks, or acts (or declines to act) in accordance with the belief that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, sexual relations are properly reserved for such a marriage, male and female and their equivalents refer to an individuals immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy, physiology, or genetics at or before birth, and that human life begins at conception and merits protection at all stages of life.

Republican's will destroy the constitution, so they can have their way. They will probably bring back the death penalty to be gay, lesbian, bi or Transgender. Maybe it will be like Salem, with witch burning, and than ANTI-CHRISTIAN activity will become illegal, ...no other religions other than Christianity. They have always wanted their Christian nation. Mosques and Buddhist Temples will be burned to the ground, anything that isn't remotely Christian destroyed, and Atheists ... will be next.

We May see a SECOND Civil war in this country, far more bloodier than the last... because you know White Supremacists will want to bring back slavery for every brown, black, red and yellow person.

Remember Republican's control everything, and some of them, are so nucking futz, they believe that this present form of government should be destroyed. Maybe Putin will help...

damn, this is starting to sound like one of those sci fi films, ...like V for Vendetta, or some other dark future where some dictator controls every aspect of people with pure hatred.

I'm using TenFourFox as the browser. TenFourFox gets updated several times per year. I installed the latest version last week. It does have options for text-only pages, I am pretty sure. I haven't messed around with it too much. TenFourFox is great, because of the frequent updating.

You can get a browser for System 7?

Sheesh.

I have an original Macintosh. My first Mac was a 512Ke. I have an SE/30 and some others, but I had to clear out a lot of stuff from storage eight and a half years ago.

I'm running an iBook G4 at home. It's running OS X 10.4.11. If it had been built a few weeks later, I would be able to run OS X 10.5 on it, but it's just a little too slow to handle the installation. The page (below) says I can run 10.5, but it won't install. I've tried. 10.5 needs a faster processor.

12″ 800 MHz iBook G4 (Late 2003)

There's a slot under the keyboard for an AirPort Extreme card, but the card was missing when I snatched the computer from a trash pile. I am scouring yard sales looking for that card.

The computer was password-protected, but there's a way to add users. So now my password will get the computer running too.

I have TenFourFox as a browser. It gets updated several times per year.

ETA: Hey! They just released a new version this afternoon. I'm downloading it now. Woo-hoo!

I have a SE/30...that I tricked out some years back to run Apple Unix. Apparently that model really can take up to 128MB of ram. And connect to the internet via ethernet. Still not sure I'd use it for daily browsing. But, the lesson I learned with it is that most any system will be a joy to use if it can hold enough RAM. Looks like the G4 iBook can take up to 2x 1GB 2100 Sodimms, which would double the maximum amount they were originally sold with and would likely really boost the performance. And, they can be had for the asking.

Btw, Air Port Extreme cards for iBook G4's go for as low as $4, shipping included, on the eBay:

I didn't know that. I'm not signed up for PayPal, so I'll probably keep hitting yard sales.

With the wireless card in place, I could easily link to my Kindle Fire and Samsung tablet. There is no software that allows data transfer, via USB cable, from a Kindle Fire to any Mac running an OS earlier than 10.5.

I love TenFourFox. It embodies that early internet notion of "we're going to keep that old Mac running regardless."

I use to go on Usenet with, what, a 286? and certainly a Performa 467, using a US Robotics external modem. Those things ran trouble-free.

Thanks for writing.

It's an excuse to do what you want to, and then blame it on someone who's not there.

With some good people, saying it's why they treat others well, that's fine - even charmingly modest.

With these shitheads, they're just writing their own licence to be bigots.

they believe this is a christian nation, we are in a holy war against secularism, which is a sin in the eyes of god, and women have to be forced to breed to outbreed both secularists and other religions, particularly islam. They don't believe in the constitution, they believe in the bible. As does Putin, the orthodox church has gained tremendous power since in the last decade under Putin. I just have to wonder how much America is going to take from this man, and how much the GOP is going to endorse. Interesting days lay ahead.
