Democrats plot protest for Trump's speech to Congress

Source: The Hill

BY MIKE LILLIS AND RAFAEL BERNAL - 02/02/17 06:00 AM EST

House Democrats are rallying behind a plan to make President Trump’s first speech to Congress as uncomfortable as possible by inviting guests they say will suffer under new White House policies.

The strategy means Trump will likely face a crowd including ethnic minorities, LGBT people, undocumented immigrants, the disabled and others when he addresses a joint session on Feb. 28.

It’s a shift in tactics for Democrats, some of whom skipped Trump’s inauguration last month in protest.
Democrats say there are no plans to stage a similar boycott of Trump’s speech, but they want to put him face-to-face with people who feel alienated and targeted by his controversial executive orders.

In a letter circulating on Capitol Hill, a group of liberals is urging fellow Democrats to bring guests who have made “a positive impact” on the community “despite discrimination or marginalization.”

Mark my words, if that happens, Republicans will just gaslight the American people by saying they have never in their whole career have seen such insulting behavior on the part of the Democratic Congress people towards a sitting president.

Perhaps we could have Frederick Douglass narrate the clip. Trump is quite fond of him and might even appoint him to a position.

were based on the concept that as a black man, Obama could never (in their eyes) be a real President. In my view, the underlying racism that motivated all of their treatment can never be denied.

And now we're stuck with fucking Donald Trump as the president. They've been lowering the bar for appropriate behavior since Clinton. In no, way, shape, or form can they tell us what is or is not insulting behavior. Fuck them all.

He would notice some celebrities who have opposed him though!

IMO, that tactic is a little too much like his dragging Bill Clinton's accusers to one of the debates. Democrats stlll don't know how to fight dirty.

both the House and Senate should simply BOYCOTT the Orange Menace's "State of The Union" speech, go home and spend time listening to their constituents concerns.

If Dems boycott, Republicans will simply pack the House chamber with rabid sycophants who will give standing ovations for everything. It will give the appearance that all of Congress is strongly supportive of him.

If Dems go, they can stay seated and never clap in order to send a strong message to him and to the public that the majority of Americans does not support him or his vision for the country.

I support a boycott, but guess I envisioned something a bit different.

Have everyone SHOW UP, and just after the Orange Menace takes the stage, stand and and very quietly leave the room leaving EMPTY CHAIRS as a constant visual reminder that he does not represent over half of America.

Like at Shrub's SOTU in 2006 -- when he said that Congress had failed to enact his plan to "save" (re: privatize) Social Security, Dems stood and cheered wildly.
