Donald Trump's presidential campaign had many unusual aspects, not the least of which was the huge amount of money it funneled into Trump's own businesses.
And now there's a new twist: Such payments can continue indefinitely because he's already declared himself a candidate for re-election in 2020.
Documents filed with the Federal Election Commission show that Trump's 2016 campaign paid millions of dollars to fly on his aircraft, compensate his relatives for unspecified campaign activities and rent space in Trump properties, including Trump Tower in New York, the Trump golf club in Bedminster, N.J., and Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
How much money did the campaign pay in total? Politico did the calculations and came up with a figure of $12.8 million as of Dec. 31, 2016.

(406 posts)He takes people's money for his campaign, which he uses to personally enrich himself, to secure the highest seat at the table, and then goes to work to pick the pockets of the same people who contributed to him being there. If it weren't so sad I would laugh. If it weren't so scary that none of his donors even know, much less care about this, this would be funny.

(629 posts)Such an honest guy like Trump would screw people that worked and CONtributed to him? Who would have thought? Take a look at tax returns next year for those companies and you'll also find depreciation on properties for their use. Tax payers get to be screwed too!

(10,037 posts)They think it's perfectly a'o.k. It's his property after all and his campaign used it.

(345 posts)Remember back at the beginning of his campaign, in the primaries, how much of his popularity seemed to be due to the "fact" that he would be self-financing his campaign and so was un-beholden to special interests?
Now, since he's already declared for 2020, he's all set to stay at the donations trough on a permanent basis..........
Not.
Surprised.
