New Bill Proposes Constitutional Convention to Amend Constitution to Ban Gay Marriage All Together

Source: LawNewz

by Rachel Stockman | 3:44 pm, February 3rd, 2017

A newly proposed bill in Arkansas calls for a constitutional convention in order to amend the United States Constitution so as to ban same-sex marriage all together across the country. The bill, which was introduced on Thursday by State Senator Jason Rapert (R), would serve as an application to Congress to call a convention “for the purpose of proposing an amendment prohibiting the United States Constitution or the Constitution or Laws of any state from defining or construing the definition of ‘marriage’ to mean anything other than the union of one man and one woman.”

Under Article V of the Constitution, there are two ways to propose an amendment. Congress can propose one by a vote of two-thirds of both the Senate and Congress. The second option, which is being pushed by this Arkansas lawmaker, is that the legislatures of 34 states call for a Constitutional Convention. According to the National Archives, none of the 27 amendments to the Constitution have been proposed by constitutional convention. Nonetheless, a proposed amendment becomes law when it is then approved by at least 38 out of the 50 states.

“I think the country now knows the silent majority is out there and they spoke during the 2016 election, and they’re going to speak again,” Sen. Jason Rapert told KATV.

In Obergefell v. Hodges, the U. S. Supreme Court voted 5-4 saying that the right to marry would also be guaranteed to same-sex couples. This decision overrode many state laws, including in Arkansas, which prohibited same-sex marriage.

Republicans already control enough state legislatures and governorships to get the ball rolling on amending the Constitution. (They still need a few more to actually ratify an amendment)

Expect another state to propose an amendment to Ban Abortion as well - this will drive turnout among evangelicals for 2017, 2018 and 2020.

to actually start the amendment process. They still need a few more to actually ratify a new amendment, but expect a rash of these sorts of proposals to try to drive Evangelical turnout - another state will propose to ban abortion, another will propose making Christianity the official religion, etc.

during a Constitutional Convention. Even scrapping the entire document and starting over.

Imagine no free speech, no free assembly, no separation of church & state and replaced with abortion is murder and no gay marriage, let alone no legal homosexuality.

Every amendment would need to be ratified by 36 states.

A convention simply takes the place of Congress.

For those of you who haven't memorized all of the Constitution and its Amendments, the 13th Amendment is the one that repealed slavery. And repeal the 1st Amendment as well - who the hell need free speech, and we certainly want a state religion as well.

Uh they fixed it all right. They trashed the Articles and created a new kind of republic!

Certain "Christians" are a pox on civilized society, much like their ISIL type counterparts!!! I truly believe that both groups are allied in a common endeavor to split the world between them...and both sides will work together to finish up what Hitler started!!!

I personally think that nailing the leaders of both groups to a tree would be a great start...that way they have actual proof of being persecuted!!!
