A Revolutionary Guards commander said Iran would use its missiles if its security is under threat, as the elite force defied new U.S. sanctions on its missile programme by holding a military exercise on Saturday.
Tensions between Tehran and Washington have risen since a recent Iranian ballistic missile test which prompted U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to impose sanctions on individuals and entities linked to the Revolutionary Guards.
Trump's national security adviser Michael Flynn said the Washington was putting Iran on notice over its "destabilising activity", and Trump tweeted Tehran was "playing with fire"
"We are working day and night to protect Irans security," head of Revolutionary Guards' aerospace unit, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency. "If we see smallest misstep from the enemies, our roaring missiles will fall on their heads," he added.

The following paper discounts the threat to this infrastructure from Iranian missiles.

However, it does paint a bleaker picture than I imagined six or seven years ago when I first started hearing rumors about this vulnerability. That is, most of the Saudi production can be knocked offline by hitting just six facilities (stabilization plants).
The above paper concludes that the accuracy of the Iranian missile inventory makes a successful attack on these six facilities a low probability. However, the way the paper discounted other attack vectors made me wonder if there was an agenda behind it.

(45,427 posts)anyone will do. Might as well be Iran since they are easy to bait and escalate tensions.
Then they will denounce all of us as unpatriotic and use it as an excuse for much worse abuses of power. Just watch the 1930's repeat itself.

(26,281 posts)Bush exploited it by starting that that war in Iraq and this isnt something isolated to the US either, right now China seems to be trying the same tactic to distract its citizens from the teetering edge its economy is on with the distraction in the South China Sea and Putin used the same tactic when he ordered the invasion of the Ukraine.

American exceptionalism on display.
The Iranians are actually far less war-loving than the
US foreign policy elite who are laboring mightily to
organize a military face-off with the entire rest of
the world simultaneously.
