Trump defends Putin: 'You think our country's so innocent?'

Source: The Hill

"He's a leader of his country. I say it's better to get along with Russia than not, and if Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS – which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism all over the world – that's a good thing. Will I get along with him? I have no idea."

O'Reilly pressed Trump on his statement, saying, "But he's a killer though. Putin's a killer."

"There are a lot of killers. We've got a lot of killers. What, you think our country's so innocent?" Trump responded.

He said that.

He actually SAID that.

In an interview with BILL O'REILLY, of all people!

Can you IMAGINE what they'd have done to Obama?

Nobody hates trump more than me. President Bush( and every American citizen by proxy) has the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocents on his hands. I can acknowledge that reality and find room in my mind to hate Trump and Putin. Obama's drone program killed many innocent people. I'm 60 years old. I watched what our government did in my name to many South American countries. Thousands died at the hands of governments installed by our CIA. Nobody hates Trump more than me.

But of course the US has engaged in brutal, covert and non covert, anti-democratic destabalizing actions around the globe in the last century. Helped countless dictators round up students, activists, priests to be murdered and/or tortured. For fucks sake they still run the School of Americas

Way too much circumstantial evidence for it NOT to be highly suspicious. As Comey proved, there were many rogue elements within the intelligence community, Cheney's "shadow government". Obama himself did not have to be aware of this for it to happen. I was searching just now for a recent government worker guest on the Late Show with Colbert who admitted that the President is not briefed on every single thing, to which Steven was visibly shocked. Can't find it.

What is truly unbelievable is the denial on here and that the US intelligence agencies are so pure and innocent and above suspicion even after decades of interference and covert violence and assassinations perpetrated everywhere else.

In fact under Bush the press were bombed in Iraq, Al Jazeera, but also AP and Reuters headquarters. 15 were killed. There was the "collateral murder" video where a cameraman was brutally murdered.

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2005/oct/24/iraq.internationalnews

And I think Heir Trump is giddy with the idea already.
You don't think he has it in him?

It is even possible that Obama may have been convinced by others that for "national security" reasons MH needed to be silenced before he blew the lid off. But no, I don't believe, can't believe, that Obama ordered anything like that. But what is to stop extremist right wing elements in the MIC and the CIA left over from the Bush/Cheney era from carrying this out? Even Obama's appointments in those areas were not pacifists. Many had Republican loyalties and conservative 'values'.

to well-reasoned academic arguments from Chomsky or political figures who have the credibility and know the time and place to make such critical remarks.

These remarks, made in a internationally televised interview with an obsequious "journalist" b/c Trump is PERSONALLY IRRITATED and defensive of Putin (for whatever fucked up reasons), and said in an angry, cocky, dickish manner, are in no way constructive. Not at all. No.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians_(song)

" ...round the time "Russians" was released, when Mikhail Gorbachev became General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in March 1985, and in 1989 Gorbachev and Reagan's successor, George H. W. Bush, declared the Cold War over at the Malta Summit,[2] with the Soviet Union dissolving two years later.

In his 2010 interview with World Entertainment News Network, Sting explained that the song was inspired by watching Soviet TV via inventor Ken Schaffer's satellite receiver at Columbia University...

"I had a friend at university who invented a way to steal the satellite signal from Russian TV. We'd have a few beers and climb this tiny staircase to watch Russian television... At that time of night we'd only get children's Russian television, like their 'Sesame Street'. I was impressed with the care and attention they gave to their children's programmes. I regret our current enemies haven't got the same ethics..."

Sting, as a teacher like me, expects no pay because we are both Open Source.

He needs to be taken to the nearest mental hospital and locked up for the good of the country. He is deranged, there is no hiding it now. If the Republicans shrug this off they all need to be removed from office. I hope they lose a generation of voters.

Every. single. Republican. should be put on the spot, forcing them to condemn this...or not. Wait for them all to squirm, stammer, (try to) change the subject, blame Obama and/or the Democrats. They need to be pinned to the wall. This wasn't just saying he wants to get along with Russia (a "good thing&quot it's defending a man he knows is a murderer. (But we kill too!)

Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, or more dangerous...

IIRC he ran the KGB directorate for East Germany: did they let anyone rise to such a position who hadn't, in mob-speak, 'made their bones'?

who don't go along 100% with him. He is promoting fear of retaliation by normalizing Putin. Putin turns vindictive against his close associates and allies if he thinks they have secretly betrayed him, trying to solidify 100% obedience which certainly has a chilling effect on any political opponents and media in Russia.

Trump normalizing killing political or governmental officials for retaliation or inferring we do that too is unacceptable and appalling for an American President. But he made incarceration normal with the "Lock her up'' threats against Hillary.

Have to wonder if American journalists and politicians will also be intimidated into appeasement, making excuses and justifications or even silence rather than standing up against Trump.

And here i have been feeling shame for some of the things our country has done and now we have a leader that makes it sound like "well sure, that is what countries do,what are you going to do about it?"
And here we sit in a country where a lot of people think carrying a gun at all times is a practical thing.

I don't like where this is headed. (AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS!!!)

No country is innocent; but does that mean Putin is a role model? We should all seek to improve our countries, not go down to the lowest common denominator.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Carter or someone made equivalent excuses for Brezhev???

What a long con: the GOP has convinced a large number of Americans that "being American" and defending "American values" means adopting the policies, values, and politics of Russia.
