House Speaker Paul Ryan: Obamacare replacement bill to pass this year

Source: Reuters

07 FEB 2017 AT 10:56 ET

The Republican leader of the U.S. House of Representatives said on Tuesday that legislation to replace former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law will be completed this year, although it may take longer to implement.

“We are going to do our legislating this year,” House Speaker Paul Ryan told a press briefing. “We are going to be going out and talking about what our plan is. … We hope to get this done as fast as possible.”

Ryan was responding to questions about President Donald Trump’s weekend interview with Fox News in which he said it might take until next year to replace the healthcare law, known as Obamacare.

Just like they did with overturning Roe v Wade...

They didn't start moving heavily with local anti choice legislation until our side pointed out a few election cycles ago that the repubs will never fight to overturn it as it gets their base to the polls and it gets conservatives to donate, bigly.

Once our side pointed out what they were doing, republicans started cobbling together ridiculous regulatory legislation in order to appease their donors.

Obamacare is the talking point set up to take its place. They have no intention of repealing it; it keeps the checks coming and gets their base to the polls.

hates brown, Obama and anyone not white, male and a supporter of white supremacy ......may he harm millions who NEED ACA. Then the feces will really hit the rotating oscillator. But most will probably buy his lies when they end up losing critical medical care. They have my sympathy on being left to die in the cold but not for voting this clown, president bannon and his sock puppet potus into office...that's on them and they get what they voted for....

Back in the early 90s when Bill and Hillary were trying to push single payer ACA was the republican alternative, and as you noted it is what Romney implemented in Mass.

But, that is just how absurdly fucking stupid this country is.

The Rs have spent the last 7 years saying this is the worst attack on democracy in our history, nominated as their candidate for POTUS in 12 someone who signed it into law in his state, and they are still making political hay over THEIR version of health care reform.

We truly deserve what we get ...

My post a couple down.

Yeah I said it would be called "Rebublicare" or "Trumpcare", but I can totally see it being called "Freedomcare". They will tout it as being that NOW there is competition and consumers have the freedom to shop for the best price. Which of course is what the ACA was all about in the first place, but the brain dead deplorables, who only listen to Fox and hate radio, will believe them hook line and sinker.

Many will lose insurance. Then they will re-introduce the plan "Republicare" or "Trumpcare" in a year with a few minor tweeks in favour of the insurance agencies, maybe even leave in the adult children able to get their parents coverage up til 25, (or tweek it to 20). But the basic structure of it will remain the same.

Then they will reintroduce it and the 20 million that were thrown off will re-inlist. And they will most likely add to that number as Red States that never signed on to Obamacare will now sign up. So they can brag all over the airwaves that Obama only got 20 mil, and they got 30 mil. to sign.

No, of course not. How silly of me. They aren't even planning to hold planning meetings. They just hope given enough time, people will forget about it.
