(6,241 posts)Great role. And he did a great job with it. Some humor, but a lot of menace.

(5,914 posts)That dude was committed to the whole Battlestar Galactica ideal.
This is very sad. He loved and was loved by many fans across the decades.

(6,972 posts)I remember as a teen going to see him and so many other television stars competing in the very first Battle of The Network Superstars at Pepperdine University back in 1976. Me, my late older brother (Our chaperon) and my 8 girlfriends enjoyed the day into the late evening. The whole event was a blast and one of the BEST days I've ever enjoyed in my life. My almost life-long friend was lucky enough to have gotten his autograph, and all of the stars from ABC's television shows autographs (Farrah's included). Unfortunately, my friend (Who became a Grandmother for the 5th time) lost those autographs and her share of the pictures she took years ago when she and her family moved from home to home. I have one surviving picture from that day, and it's a beautiful picture of me and my late brother. I cherish it STILL to this day, and I think of my late brother daily
I followed all of the Battle of ...shows over the years from 1976 onward, but the very first Battle of shows one was the only one I ever attended in person. The memories of that day and the pictures we took on our Polaroid color film cameras still live on with us/me 41 years later. Hatch was a heck of an athlete, and I remember my late brother and all of us girls we were all laughing when he got into that argument with Robert Conrad. I was rooting for ABC so bad and they won.
As a side note, I wonder why Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul of Starsky & Hutch fame never participated in Battle of the Network Superstars. They both were great athletes and of course great to look at (Especially PMG ).
My youth is leaving me bit by bit, and I'm getting OLDER
Anyway ...
RIP Richard, I remember WHEN

(128,458 posts)I was in high school during that period too and remember those "battles". Had Hatch/Benedict & Glaser/Soul up in my locker - from all the Tiger Beat (and similar) magazines I bought!
My godmother (who would have been in her late-80s now like my mother would have been) had the same Ford Grand Torino as the one from Starsky & Hutch - red with the white stripe -
I was impressed and amazed at how hip she was.

RIP Apollo. I remember watching BSG as a young boy with my paper colonial viper helmet playing with the cool toys

(128,458 posts)Both Randy Mantooth (from "Emergency!" and Richard Hatch (BSG) were in a couple of the final episodes of BSG -1978/79 together ("Greetings from Earth I & II" . I always got a kick out of that because they did resemble each other a bit.

(128,458 posts)OMG I am so sorry to see this. I was (and still am) a BIG BSG fan (not of the stupid reboot but of the original). This is somewhat ironic given Dirk Benedict had his own scare some time ago and managed to beat it, so this happening to Hatch was really a shocker.
I know he spent alot of time trying to get the series re-done and was rebuked again and again, eventually giving into Moore's travesty version (which he eventually appeared on) after he had already started on his own continuation that was fan-driven.
R.I.P. and thank you for continuing to inspire my love for sci fi.
As a sidenote, I did attend a convention almost 15 years ago where I met Herb Jefferson, Jr. ("Boomer" from the original BSG) and he autographed my BSG paperback novel. We were chatting away for awhile... great guy.
