Trump Criticizes Judges Deciding On His Order: 'Courts Seem To Be So Political'

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that a federal appeals court would earn respect if it allowed for the immediate enforcement of his immigration executive order.
-snip-
Later, Trump addressed the three judges on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals hearing the case, though the President refrained from criticizing them directly.
I listened to a panel of judges and I'll comment on that I will not comment on the statements made by certainly one judge, but I have to be honest that if these judges wanted to, in my opinion, help the court in terms of respect for the court, they'd do what they should be doing, he said. Later, he returned to the court, seemingly trying to restrain himself.
"And I don't ever want to call a court biased so I won't call it biased, and we haven't had a decision yet. But courts seem to be so political and it would be so great for our justice system if they would be able to read a statement and do what's right, he said. And that has to do with the security of our country, which is so important. Right now we are at risk because of what happened.

(17,862 posts)a solid by urging him to settle. I think he did it for the good of the country hoping that Trump might actually settle down and take his job seriously.
In hindsight I wish the judge had baited him to continue defending the lawsuit.

(7,430 posts)What's NOT being discussed by any of the media I've seen is the fact that Trumpy's EO is a violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. That law forbids the denial of entry into the US of immigrants based upon the country of origin.
It's not as emotionally evocative a violation as the religion-based prohibition, but it's just as solidly based in law. And it's not discussed anywhere. It's certainly a fall-back position to take if the current legal arguments against Trumpy's ban turn weak.

(17,387 posts)...outside of the framework of the Constitution, and Republican members of Congress can set this up by taking review of Trump's executive orders outside of the jurisdiction of federal courts.

(15,273 posts)must be cringing right about now. I'm surprised she hasn't picked up the phone to give her brother a civics lesson. Then again, outside of his immediate wives and children, I have seen no evidence of ANY other Trump family member defending, talking or even acknowledging they are related.

Wonder how it's different for terminal narcissism cases? The thoughts are vague,
the focus on self remains.

(10,749 posts)But they are a more or less equal part of the triad of executive, judicial, and legislative.
And, unless every Republican judge loses his/her fucking mind, much of Der Drumpfenfuhrer's "policy" positions will be reversed once they hit the courts. On top of that, you have to assume that his WH has the capacity to develop policies and programs that have any sort of logical and rational perspective.
Look at the repeal of Obamacare. They've had more than five years and have come up with nothing. Nothing. Five Years. Then there's the Muslim ban. Not quite working out as planned. And the DOJ lawyers are coming across as utter boobs.
Also, while some of the law enforcement officials he spoke to are white supremacists in uniform (Constitution Sheriffs and such), many - most? - law enforcement officials are rational and realize how the WH policies will destroy their ability to police their communities. (And, yes, I realize that there has been quite a lot of police brutality over the past several years - sanctioned murders it seems. My comment assumes that these psychopaths are in the minority. Maybe I'm wrong, but you have to start somewhere. Otherwise, it's all chaos all the time.)
Yes, DeVos is a disaster, but there will be pushback.
Also, I have little doubt that there will be turnover in the cabinet and in the WH within the first year.

(372 posts)...it was Trump at perhaps his most demented. He brought up the dishonest polls. He said that nobody understands the law better than him. He talked about how great his mind is and how smart he is -- maybe smarter than anyone.
My father-in-law is 89 and has full-blown dementia. The similarities between his and Trump's paranoia and ceaseless self-aggrandizement are shocking. I'm not a (medical) doctor so there's nothing unethical about me making a diagnosis without having the patient in front of me. I'll only offer that there's something very wrong with Trump and it's not likely to get better.

(23,083 posts)Yes, part of the sentence is the truth. courts can be political - that's how we got Citizens United and the states didn't have to expand Medicaid. However, other people do have their own ideas. The rant that this is about security is where he's a total liar. If it was about security, Saudi Arabia and Egypt would be included. Those countries have caused us harm through terrorism, the ones named have not. It's about his hate of brown people, except those that send him $$. He has properties in Saudi ARabia and Egypt, that's why they weren't included although they do export terrorism. That proves this order is a lie. He also proved he didn't care about terrorism when he ended the dept. that investigated terrorism of the white variety. He doesn't care about how many people white people kill, they aren't Islamic. Besides the white people that would commit terrorism are his folks to begin with, so again, let them rape and kill per him.
Vile, disgusting, thing is going to destroy the world and us with it.
