Sean Spicer: ‘I can only hope that if Coretta Scott King was still with us,’ she’d support Jeff Sessions

BRAD REED

White House Press Secretary said on Wednesday that he hoped that if Coretta Scott King were still alive that she would support the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R AL) for attorney general.

King, the late widow of civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr., had originally opposed Sessionss nomination for a federal judgeship in the 1980s on the grounds that he had allegedly tried to intimidate and chill the exercise of the ballot by African Americans.

Despite this, Spicer said that he hoped that King would have come around to supporting Sessions today if she had ever taken the time to get to know him and understand his record on key issues such as voting rights.

I would respectfully disagree with her assessment of Sen. Sessions then and now, said Spicer. His record on civil voting rights, I think, is outstanding.

Who in their right mind tries to imagine Coretta Scott King and Jeff Sessions as best buds? What White House hierarchy allows such a sick insult to go public? That's one small step above pissing on that noble woman's grave. Absolutely unforgivable. In any rational universe, Spicer would be out of a job this afternoon. I hope SNL savages him on this, on Saturday.

I'm pretty sure the repugs aren't smart enough to have known this before hand, but it seems like Spicer may be saying this to let outrage build to extreme level, knowing that this video exists of CSK actually (barf) praising Sessions during the launching of the Rosa Parks library...

That was the only time King mentioned Sessions in her speech -- and it her words fall well short of "thanking" him, whether for his role in establishing the library or for anything else. She simply acknowledged his presence in the room, as she did with other dignitaries.
