Trump's constant tweeting is actually a negative for Twitter, top analyst says

Source: CNBC

Twitter is not seeing a boost in business from the "Trump effect" despite the president's active tweeting, as advertisers steer clear of the platform so their brands don't get targeted, analyst Richard Kramer said on Thursday.

Shares of Twitter were tanking in premarket trading on Thursday after forward guidance missed expectations by a landslide and quarterly revenue was far below estimates. Earnings, however, did beat forecasts.

"I think whatever your political views, it's clear that Trump is extremely divisive, and this isn't really a positive for advertisers," Kramer told CNBC's "Worldwide Exchange," speaking ahead of Twitter's earnings report.

The Arete Research co-founder and senior analyst said his firm still has a negative view on Twitter because although monthly average users are growing, the platform is becoming riskier for advertising, which is a main profit driver for competitors like Facebook and Alphabet's Google.

impact corporate profits enough that influential industries and ultrawealthy individuals started doing something about it? At very least backing off their own contributions to partisan hostility?

I'm not even on that platform, but I am sick of hearing about his tweets.

One top of the hour AP radio news broadcast had 3 of them as news stories. Overkill

I would bet that even some of his staff and GOPers are like, enough dude.

And he is waging the war of attrition on Twitter every single day. He is trying to wear the opposition down, by provoking them over and over and over again. The resistance must continue, if we fail, it opens up the floodgates for totalitarian govt

the key, however is being focused and not expending too much time and energy on the ancillary bullshit.

It's hurting ad sales and revenue. That's a pretty good reason for a business to do anything. We should probably take advantage of any opportunity that presents itself to let Twitter know that his account is driving ill-will toward the platform.

I hope Trump keeps tweeting. His tweets show just how unhinged he is. And as yesterday's tweet about Nordstrom shows, he likely spends more time om family business than on learning his job and governing the country. His tweets about judges have not endeared him to the judiciary, and we'll need them to overturn his more egregious actions. So tweet on!

Although, it is getting old. Don't we have enough examples of crazy already? I wouldn't mind if Twitter dropped him.

He won't stop though. He thinks it'll make him look weak. Like he 'caved'. So he'll stubbornly refuse the sound advice he gets to stop embarrassing himself.
