Trump contradicts Gorsuch spokesman, accuses Blumenthal of misrepresenting comments
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Thursday contradicted a spokesman for his Supreme Court nominee in a tweet blasting Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), who told reporters that Judge Neil Gorsuch called Trump's tweets attacking federal judges "demoralizing."
"Sen.Richard Blumenthal, who never fought in Vietnam when he said for years he had (major lie),now misrepresents what Judge Gorsuch told him?" the president tweeted Thursday morning.
Blumenthal said Wednesday that Gorsuch called Trump's tweets attacking federal judges "disheartening" and "demoralizing."
In a later statement, Blumenthal urged Gorsuch to make his concerns public.

A spokesman for Gorsuch later confirmed to CNN that the judge used the terms "disheartening" and "demoralizing" to describe Trump's tweets during his meeting with the Blumenthal.

(5,730 posts)DT's followers are so stupid they will probably believe him though. They think anything DT doesn't like is fake News.
I'm just afraid the Repubs will get someone worse. Gorsuch was the best on the list of terrible ones. He is at least smart, more than I can say for sessions. One could only hope, he would bend once appointed. I don't see any of the others with that possibility.

(1,803 posts)I'd bet that Trump's people directed Gorsuch to make these comments in order to make Gorsuch seem more independent and therefore palatable to the Democrats who are lining up to oppose his nomination. The tell is that Gorsuch's message to each of the Senators who made public the his statements appears to have been identical, and probably scripted, and Gorsuch apparently advised the Senators that they could make his statements public. Clearly his statements were intended for public consumption. There is no way gorsuch would have made statements potentially embarrassing to SCROTUS if he had not been instructed to do so by the Whitehouse.
In the meanwhile, the media is looking at the Nordstrom tweet as a "head fake" intended to distract attention from Gorsuch's comments. I think the media has mis-identified the head fake.
