Trump promises Chinese president he'll honor 'One China' policy
Source: The Hill
President Trump told Chinese President Xi Jinping Thursday night that he will honor the One China policy that recognizes Beijing as the only legitimate Chinese government.
The two leaders spoke by phone Thursday night, the White House said in a release, their first phone conversation since Trumps inauguration.
The two leaders discussed numerous topics and President Trump agreed, at the request of President Xi, to honor our one China policy, the release said. Representatives of the United States and China will engage in discussions and negotiations on various issues of mutual interest.

The release came shortly after the publication of a New York Times report that described China as "stung" by Trump's call with Taiwan. Officials told the Times that Xi would not agree to speak with Trump until after his public acknowledgment of the policy, which in effect cuts off official governmental ties with Taiwan.

(13,616 posts)Let's be honest, Bannon is aching for a fight with China as that would be the big, apocalyptic racial holy war that he wants so bad, one where most of us are dead. Vladimir Rasputin also wanted things to stay hot between China and the USA because Trump would be the proxy between Moscow and folks in Beijing who remember they already conquered Russia once, and that they could gladly play the role of Genghis Khan again.
Of course, I do not believe the sentiment is genuine, and I will bet Xi Jinping does not either. However, somebody new that we are not ready for any sort of war with China. However, if that somebody bucked Steve Bannon, you can tell that Stevie boy will do his best to get this country back on the war footing with Beijing that is the answer to his literal prayers. After all, it's not even one month since the inauguration and house Trump is already in a mess, the sort of mess that normally only gets founded when I will send pics of war that he cannot win.

China's Anbang Insurance Group is in talks to invest in a project to redevelop a flagship New York City building owned by Kushner Companies, the family real estate business run by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to a person familiar with the discussions
Who is Anbang anyway?
https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/02/world/asia/china-anbang-insurance.html
After more than three months of combing through thousands of pages of records, The Times was able to piece together a corporate history for those 39 shareholders. One clear pattern emerged. At least 35 of the companies, collectively owning more than 92 percent of Anbang, can trace all or part of their ownership to relatives of Mr. Wu or to his wife, Zhuo Ran, who is the granddaughter of the former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping; or to Chen Xiaolu, the son of one of Chinas most famous marshals, who helped Maos Communists to victory in 1949. Those relatives are either current or former owners or directors of those companies, or current or former owners of predecessor firms.

US, Chinese aircraft in 'unsafe' encounter over S. China Sea by Gillian Wong
BEIJING (AP) A Chinese early warning aircraft and a U.S. Navy patrol plane had an "unsafe" encounter over the South China Sea this week, the U.S. Pacific Command said Friday, in the first such incident known to have taken place under President Donald Trump's administration.
The interaction between a Chinese KJ-200 and a U.S. Navy P-3C plane took place on Wednesday in international airspace, Pacific Command spokesman Robert Shuford said. He did not say what was unsafe about the encounter, although the term usually implies planes flying too close to one another.

However, the website of the Communist Party newspaper Global Times quoted an unidentified ministry official as saying that the Chinese pilot had responded in a "legal and professional manner."
"We hope the U.S. side will focus on the relationship between the two countries and two militaries in their entirety, adopt concrete measures and eliminate the root causes of accidental incidents between the two countries on sea and in the air," the unidentified official was quoted as saying.
Philippine Defense Department spokesman Arsenio Andolong also expressed concern because the incident happened near Scarborough Shoal, which is located within the Philippines' 200-mile exclusive economic zone but claimed by China, which seized it in 2012 after a tense standoff with Philippine vessels.
