Steven Mnuchin Is Confirmed as Treasury Secretary

Source: New York Times

WASHINGTON — The Senate confirmed Steven T. Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs banker and Hollywood film financier, to be secretary of the Treasury Department on Monday, putting in place a key lieutenant to President Trump who will help drive the administration’s plans to overhaul the tax code, renegotiate trade deals and remake financial regulations.

By a vote of 53 to 47, the Senate confirmed Mr. Mnuchin, who was Mr. Trump’s top fund-raiser during his campaign. During a long debate over Mr. Mnuchin’s credentials, Democrats argued that Mr. Mnuchin’s experience on Wall Street exemplified corporate malpractice that led to the 2008 financial crisis.

During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee last month, Mr. Mnuchin was scolded by Democrats for failing to disclose nearly $100 million in assets and for not revealing his role as a director for an investment fund based in the Cayman Islands, a well-known tax haven. Republicans on the committee broke with protocol and pushed Mr. Mnuchin’s vote to the Senate floor after a boycott by Democrats.

Nothing so far
His opposition to Hair Douche's nominees he was front and center on
Nominees like Sessions he waited to post his press release on why he supported until no one was looking
My guess, this will be no different

I haven't seen much in the way of the new generation of Democrats coming along in that state
That could be because it was the same people sitting in office for so long that they didn't prepare
Or they just went full red so quickly the party couldn't keep up

That's the real question with a lot of these nominees. Even if Trump were an otherwise acceptable president, many of these nominees are incompetent or criminals and therefore unfit to serve regardless of who appointed them.

We can't stop the GOP from putting in who they want unless some GOP join in. If there was a chance to derail the appointment than Manchin's vote matters...but there wasn't. I would rather have a Democrat in WVA because we may need a warm body to shift the Senate to the Dems in 18...uphill battle but doable with Trump. Now, I actually disagree with Manchin and think cozying up to the GOP is going to get him tossed out like Landrieu...they prefer the real thing. But putting up a liberal candidate in WVA would be a waste of time.

We may need him to take the Senate back..so we are in charge...all about numbers...you don't have the numbers doesn't matter how pure and liberal you are. I am a liberal, but I would do anything to prevent the GOP takeover of the courts and the horror that Trump's immigration order has unleashed and the war he will sure start.

Manchin was a close friend and confidant of Byrd and has used that to his advantage. That plus of having been so close to the late Sen Byrd probably will not save, much less help him this time like it did before

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/treasury-secretary-nominee-steven-mnuchin-profited-madoff-article-1.2892862

The family of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Treasury secretary scored more than $3 million from Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme — and got to keep the cash even after that scam crumbled.

A Madoff trustee sued the family of Steven Mnuchin in 2011 to claw back $3.2 million in fake profits they pocketed from Madoff’s con.

According to a complaint filed in federal bankruptcy court in New York, Mnuchin’s mother Elaine Cooper received $3,204,227 from Madoff’s massive Ponzi scheme, in which the former financier swindled nearly $65 billion from his Wall Street clients. It is the largest Ponzi scheme in American history.

I am amused personally to see a huge chunk of the left stop giving a shit about GS after that first week of November, though... Where are they now that they're needed?
