Russian lawmakers cry foul over resignation of national security adviser Michael Flynn
Source: ABC News
Russian lawmakers have been reacting with outrage to the resignation of President Donald Trumps national security adviser Michael Flynn, calling it the result of American paranoia towards Moscow and a campaign by Trumps opponents to damage relations between Russia and the United States.
Flynn resigned on Monday after it emerged that he misled White House officials about his discussions with Russias ambassador to Washington ahead of Trumps inauguration.
In his resignation letter, Flynn said he had inadvertently briefed Vice President Mike Pence and others with incomplete information on calls with the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. Flynn came under fire for discussing U.S. sanctions on Russia with the ambassador back in December.
The Kremlin has confirmed the calls but denied the sanctions were mentioned.

(22,759 posts)That's one reason it is surprising that Flynn didn't expect to get caught. suggests that he was ordered to have the conversation by Trump himself. This could very well lead to a smoking gun. As the fall guy, Flynn will have no reason not to spill the beans.

(3,231 posts)they are also using the republican playbook and calling MSM fake news....Orwellian reaction.. I don't remember what else I heard on NPR but it was pretty surreal hearing Russia take such an interest in US politics.
And those quotes "Inadvertently" and "incomplete information" it's like the old Bush Whitehouse "want to spend more time with my family" cop out.

But no mention of his master, #45. Did he not brief #45 also? So I guess that means #45 already knew, yes?

(7,888 posts)The best pick for the position of National Security adviser would be retired Army Col. Andrew Bacevich. He lost a son to the Iraq war and has written extensively on the value of diplomacy and the risks and failures of military intervention.
