Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Tuesday said that the resignation of Michael Flynn from his role as national security adviser raises questions about President Donald Trump's policy toward Russia.
"General Flynns resignation also raises further questions about the Trump administrations intentions toward Vladimir Putins Russia, including statements by the President suggesting moral equivalence between the United States and Russia despite its invasion of Ukraine, annexation of Crimea, threats to our NATO allies, and attempted interference in American elections," McCain said in a statement.
"American policy toward Russia must be made clear and unequivocal: we will honor our commitments to our NATO allies, we will maintain and enhance our deterrent posture in Europe, we will hold Russian violators of human rights accountable for their actions, and we will maintain sanctions on Russia so long as it continues to violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," the senator added. McCain did thank the former national security adviser for his service in his statement, but called the circumstances around Flynn's resignation "troubling."
General Flynns resignation is a troubling indication of the dysfunction of the current national security apparatus. As our nation confronts the most complex and diverse array of global challenges since the end of World War II, it is imperative that the President select a new National Security Advisor who is empowered by clear lines of authority and responsibility and possesses the skills and experience necessary to organize the national security system across our government," he said in the statement.

(11,849 posts)This... from the guy who HAND DELIVERED the " dossier" to the CIA. Why is he slow walking this? He knows enough to be a voice from the Republicans to lead the charge on investigations. WTF, John? You've been making bank on that Hero/Maverick reputation for years. How about actually stepping up to be one in the NOW?

(24,695 posts)I got a question there zippy McCain, why do you talk out of both sides of your mouth-----------think about it.
You just came out with this comment, but you will go into the well of senate and confirm this authoritarian narcissistic sexual predators ass**** picks for cabinet positions like nothing is happening---------
And whats really classic, why aren't you zippy McCain along with your side kick Graham not calling into question what happened down in Mar-A-Lago this past weekend, are you that stupid?
That you would come out with these comments and not even mention what happened down there, you do realize, that this twit for a president, does not and I repeat does not have a secure site down there.
On Joy Reid hosting for O'Donnell last night one of the guest speakers brought up a very good point. Are the "employees" of this Mar-A-Largo place been vetted by the FBI? Good point there zippy Johnny, why aren't you asking those questions there zippy?
Does he have a secure room to talk to anyone of importance were there is no eavesdropping, like there is in the White House at Mar-a-Lago? Don't think so, and why is the taxpayers footing the bill for state dinners at a f**king resort that he owns or whoever has the paper that he borrowed the money from to get the place, do you see a violation of the Constitution here zippy, or do you condone the shell game with taxpayer money, just like you did when it came to the sacred sites of the Navajo?
