There's a Russian spy ship hanging out off the East Coast

Source: Salon

A Russian spy ship has moved 40 miles closer to the U.S. shore, and is now sitting 30 miles off the coast of Groton, Connecticut, according to a report by Fox News.

<snip>

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat, has challenged the ship’s actions on Twitter.

"Russia is acting like it has a permission slip to expand influence, test limits of reach. Questions are obvious: does it, and if so, why?"

<snip>

This is the latest in a series of military escalations from Russia since national security adviser Michael T. Flynn was compelled to resign on Tuesday. Flynn had well-known ties to the regime of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, although it is unclear whether there is any connection between Flynn’s resignation and the recent escalations.

The other escalations include the deployment of a cruise missile in violation of a treaty that helped end the Cold War, carrying out flights near a Navy warship, and sending a spy ship off the coast of Delaware.

When I was in the Navy during the 80's, there always was a Russian ship hanging around just outside the 12 mile limit out of Norfolk, VA. We would see them as we went on deployment. As long as they are outside the 12 mile limit (international waters), nothing we can do.

And yet, the act is still part and parcel of the international language of diplomacy, and it incumbent upon us to both accurately interpret and from that, appropriately act on their immediate presence.

Looking at one ship as no more and no less than simply one ship, rather than as part of the whole of communication would have had catastrophic, possibly apocalyptic results during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill. We should act appropriately, not fly off the handle about one ship in international waters doing what we regularly do to other nations. Personally, I am more worried about reports Russia is breaking the INF treaty. That is a provocation.

If Trumps Chumps needed a wake-up, this would be it. Won't be on Faux "News" though, so I'm afraid it won't help.

the Russian submarine fleet has withered away to just a handful of operational boats. They don't venture far from home waters.

that would have been tRump, Manafort, Flynn and Bannon's party barge.

Considering the current total fuck-up that is the White House, I think it's actually a threat from their real boss. Next stop - Siberia.
