President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the media treated former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn "very unfairly" and slammed leaks by members of his own administration.
"General Flynn is a wonderful man. I think he's been treated very, very unfairly by the media, as I call it the fake media, in many cases, and I think it is really a sad thing he was treated so badly," Trump said during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump called leaks from his administration "a criminal action" and claimed that they are being used to "cover up for" Hillary Clinton's election loss.
"It has been going on for a long time before me, but now it's really going on," Trump said. "I think that it is very, very unfair what's happened to General Flynn, the way he was treated and the documents and papers that were illegally, I stress that, illegally leaked."

(55,445 posts)despite the fact that Trump himself said he had lost trust in him...
Oh, and nice to see he has adopted the emoprog/Greenwaldian talking point of the Russian questions being a smokescreen to cover for Hillary losing the election (you DUers who parroted this myth should be very ashamed of yourselves)...

(1,180 posts)As usual, the SCPOTUS is trying to divert attention away from his real legal problems by calling out the media as the ones who broke the law. It's his usual pattern of projection.

(59,498 posts)He threw him under the bus rather than have his back and defend him. The media did not have the power to do anything to him. He needed no confirmation. Neither Congress or the public had any say into his staying. Unless he broke the law.

(64,854 posts). . .how are the leaks a defense against what happened? The leaks are information regarding wrongdoing. Whether we like or dislike the leaks (count me as "like" , a leak from inside that says "everything is cool and there were no laws broken by anybody" doesn't lead to a forced resignation.
So, exactly how do "illegal" leaks end up a defense for lawbreaking? (Other than, of course, "Well none of this would have happened if we didn't get caught."

(20,135 posts)You're right: the fact that leaking the information may have broken the law (not saying it did, but even if that is so...) doesn't change the illegality of the actions described by the leaks.
Trump isn't smart enough to realize that he's confirmed that the leaks are accurate by the very fact that he called them "leaks." If it weren't true, they wouldn't be leaks, they'd be lies...or "fake news."
