Protests in Anaheim, California, After Off-Duty Cop Fires Gun During Clash With Teens

Source: nbcnews.com

Hundreds of protesters descended on the home of a Los Angeles police officer Wednesday after video surfaced of the off-duty cop's apparently firing a gun during a scuffle with a 13-year-old that erupted after the teenager and friends allegedly walked on his lawn.

.....

The officer wasn't arrested because "there was no ongoing threat to public safety," Wyatt said. "We know how to find him, where to find him."

.....

The video, which was shared widely online, appears to show the officer holding on to the 13-year-old boy while being jostled by the teen's friends. The tussle continues until the cop pulls the pair into a hedge before pulling out his weapon and firing it. It doesn't show how the confrontation began or what led to the incident.

.....

The Los Angeles Police Department didn't identify the officer, who is on administrative leave. The 13-year-old was arrested and released after being booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall on charges of criminal threats and battery. A 15-year-old friend who was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery was released to his parents.

The privilege of making the money that guy makes, working where he works, and he does this.

Has no idea how most of us would give anything to make six figures and live in Southern Sunny California.

Might scatter these kids long enough for the police to arrive.

He's obviously the physical aggressor in the moments leading up to it. The other kids just want him to let their friend go and he's just dragging the kid around.

Then when the kids fight back he pulls a gun.

He should have been an adult. Unless a kid hit me I would never grab one.

Such a mundane issue that turned extreme.

... the man in plaid said he heard, "I am gonna shoot you"...

NBC just reported that the kids have been chronic antagonists, no respect for personal property.

... DID RUSH him and shove him into the hedge. According to neighborhood residents, the kids have been trampling on lawns, not respecting private property. Let's wait and see how many times they were told to not walk on the yard, especially when there is a fine sidewalk to walk on.

Because he was dragging a kid and holding them.

They were defending their friend from an obvious out of control adult. They tried talking with him, reason, then gently pulling him. The guy escalated and then they did.

Who cares how many times? You don't grab and drag children.

Yes, that's always been the thing that determines whether or not someone gets arrested.

Cops took too long to get over to the kid and then later had him on his knees. WTH?
This seems like another case of "we're not taking s$it from anyone any more." Just a guess.

The crazy ass off duty cop with the gun, that he fired in a residential area? The one whose composure is so shaky he comes completely unglued over some kids walking on his lawn? He doesn't even get handcuffs.

This guy wouldn't last 15 minutes as a public school teacher. Hell, I suspect a class of third graders would eat him alive.

Why do we tolerate cops like this? What kind of idiot gets in a pissing contest with teenagers?

Why is this idiot allowed to have a gun???

He repeatedly tells the other adult to let the kid go. You can see him in one video calling the police. After the shot, only the old man is left on the scene talking to the cops and being observant..

Americans obsession with an ecological disaster called the lawn is amazing. Of course the millions and millions spent advertising lawn products has nothing to do with it.
