Trump establishes task forces to eliminate job killing regulations

Trump establishes task forces to eliminate job killing regulations

By Juliet Eilperin February 24 at 1:45 PM

President Trump signed an executive order Friday establishing task forces in every agency for removing job killing regulations and increasing economic opportunity.

Trump, who signed the measure in the Oval Office with the chief executives from U.S. firms such as Lockheed Martin, Dow Chemical, Archer Daniels Midland and International Paper standing behind him, said each task force will make recommendations to repeal or simplify existing regulations.

It will ensure that every agency has a team of dedicated people to research all regulations that are unnecessary, burdensome and harmful to the economy, and harmful to the creation of jobs and business, he declared. Every regulation should have to pass a simple test: Does it make life better or safer for American workers or consumers. If the answer is no, if the answer is no, we will be getting rid of it and getting rid of it quickly.

Under the 1946 Administrative Procedure Act, eliminating a rule entails a detailed process in which agencies must subject such proposals to subject comment. It typically takes at least a year and a half to wipe a rule off the books, according to the George Washington University Regulatory Studies Center, although more recent ones can be overturned more quickly by a majority vote in Congress and the presidents signature. Trump has already overturned two Obama-era rules that way and is poised to nullify others.

I saw a thread about this in GD but not in LBN. See reply #2:

Hat tip, Joe.My.God: Trump Gives Pen To Dow Chemical CEO After Signing Order On Excessive Government Regulations
http://www.joemygod.com/2017/02/24/trump-gives-pen-dow-chemical-ceo-signing-order-excessive-government-regulations/

I urge everyone who starts a thread in LBN that is based on an article in print to include a link to the Twitter feed of the author or authors of that article. They are often working on similar stories. Not only that, but those Twitter feeds can lead to other similar Twitter feeds.

Also, I was trying to access an article in The Wall Street Journal. yesterday. they are going to a pay-per-view model for a lot of their content. In the past, I've been able to access TWSJ. articles by going in through Google News. I was not able to do that yesterday. I found that by going in through the author's Twitter feed, I was able to access the article.

Finally, pay particular attention to this sentence in the article:

Under the 1946 Administrative Procedure Act, eliminating a rule entails a detailed process in which agencies must subject such proposals to subject comment. It typically takes at least a year and a half to wipe a rule off the books,...

You don't just snap your fingers, and the regulation is magically gone. It doesn't work that way.

How would cutting ANY regulation create jobs or make it possible for a company to hire more people? Isn't that a matter of supply and demand? Wouldn't having MORE regulations create jobs? There has to be more workers to make sure everything is done right.

As I said, I am not an expert. At my income level, I am barely a consumer. I am not a worker, but I have had jobs in the past.

And it mentions "life for the worker and consumer" but not really the life of the planet itself. Very telling. Not to mention the folks who are a part of this should NOT be in charge of their own regulations in any sense.

For example, if they kill a regulation that says polluters can't dump pollution in drinking water; then said polluter can dump pollution where ever they like saving them money, increasing their profit margin, and (hypothetically) having enough money to hire more workers.

and even those who derive money from rentals. They all pay ZERO State taxes. Has hiring and job growth boomed since Jan 2013 when it went into effect?? HELL NO,it's stagnant. No big rush to Kansas by business and no big rush to hire anyone.

As with most of these Republican trickle down shams the rich POCKET the cash and spend little.

Said no one ever, "we have barely enough business to justify the employees we have, but we just got a tax cut so let's hire more workers."

We already know the EPA is in the bullseye, so expect tons more pollution and toxins in water. air, and earth. Pruitt will push for that certainly. Add the reduction in agricultural inspection and pharmaceutical testing by the FDA, with a few nukes to that equation, and they get all they're hoping for. I hope these people starve to death in their underground bunkers.

Do they even know how the regulations are published and what that publications look like?

It's just books and books and books ("sections" of which are assigned to specific agencies - plus it is online) -

As the OP noted, draft changes are required to be published in the Federal Register for comment for "x" number of days and then revisions made as necessary and then put back out there again for comment. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

They need to go on youtube and look at this -

As BumRushDaShow noted, the regulations are online too. They are at e-CFR, the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations:

http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/ECFR?page=browse

Oddly this is only an h-t-t-p, not an h-t-t-p-s. Everything else in the Feds is going to h-t-t-p-s.

They were still printing (last I saw) the Federal Register too.

We used to have the stack of CFRs for our agency in our office but obviously the online one made it easier. However out in the field, we had tiny copies of certain parts that we brought with us.

Edit to add that they may be still using http:// due to trying to accommodate some older browsers.

The person who had been keeping them retired last month. The CFRs (print versions of the Code of Federal Regulations) got thrown out yesterday. I didn't volunteer to take a single one.

We used to get cartons of CFRs every summer. Also, we got two copies of the Federal Register every day. That stopped three or four years ago.

I wonder who will be the party representative who makes sure we think good thoughts. I keep imagining the Nazi party representative on the U-boat. I had been thinking it was "The Enemy Below," but on second thought, it must be "Das Boot."

We had to cite them so occasionally had to open them and find the reference if it was an obscure one and we hadn't already memorized it.

do they want? What has killed jobs is RW corporate CEOs and owners outsourcing for cheaper labor.
Someone should do an analysis on how much of the trade deficit is attributable to outsourcing and selling goods back into the US.
