Some of the women of the House Democrats banded together Tuesday, opting to wear white on the day of President Donald Trump's speech to a join session of Congress in honor of the suffragette movement.
The congresswomen posted photos of their political fashion statements on Twitter with the hashtag #womenwearwhite. The hashtag was previously used during the November 2016 election, when many women wore white to the polls in honor of the movement.

A group of Democratic women are set to make an impression when they file into the House chamber Tuesday night for President Donald Trump's address to Congress.
The look they plan to go for: wearing all white.
The move is a nod to the women's suffrage movement, which encouraged followers to dress in white as a symbol of purity. During last year's election, Democrat Hillary Clinton the first woman to be nominated for president on a major political party's ticket was known for wearing white pantsuits during key campaign appearances and also wore all white at Trump's presidential inauguration.

On Election Day, some women went to the polls dressed in white attire spawning the social media hashtag #WearWhiteToVote.
The call to wear white for Trump's speech was devised by the House's Democratic Women's Working Group and will be a symbol of "the ongoing fight to attain equal rights for all women," members said.

"We wear white to unite against any attempts by the Trump Administration to roll back the incredible progress women have made in the last century, and we will continue to support the advancement of all women," Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., the chair of the party's Women's Working Group, said in a statement.
The future of women's health care, equal pay and other related issues have come under question with the new Trump administration. Just days after taking office, Trump reinstated a policy that barred foreign aid or federal funding for international programs that provide abortions or even information on getting them.................................

(7,615 posts)Now I get it - nod to original suffragettes, who wore white. White = Purity (of cause)
I love wearing white linen suits but I always manage to get it dirty real quick.

(1,459 posts)... and not a nod and it's not as clear as it could be.
IOW, if it's a nod then it something for them and doesn't relate to Trump.
If it's a protest, then what are they protesting.
YMMV...

If I get to attend a pro-Muslim march/rally, I plan to wear a head scarf as well as my Christian cross (if that isn't redundant).

(81,085 posts)I'd wonder, because this asshole is so self-centered and almost toxically narcissistic and freakin' IGNORANT, he might interpret that as a bunch of surrender gestures.
It's damn easy to be cynical these days. I sure feel that way - most of the time. I'd bet he won't get the message. And if it's explained to him, he'll just brush it off like the pompous self-centered and almost toxically narcissistic and freakin' IGNORANT asshole he is.
If it were me, I'd probably do what Maxine Waters is doing. NOT showing up at all. I don't even plan to watch. Until 9pm Pacific time (midnight, Eastern), that is. The speech will be over and MSNBC will have a special hour with Bill Maher, Michael Moore, Kathy Griffin, Rob Reiner, and other incisive observers, commenting on the speech. I will definitely tune in for that!
