Updated 1:02 pm, Thursday, March 2, 2017
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) Federal law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at three Caterpillar facilities in central Illinois on Thursday, officials said.
Caterpillar spokeswoman Corrie Heck Scott said in an email Thursday that the company is cooperating with law enforcement but didn't comment further.
Sharon Paul, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Springfield, said "federal law enforcement activity" was being conducted at three Caterpillar locations including the corporate headquarters in Peoria and facilities in East Peoria and Morton.
Paul said the Internal Revenue Service's criminal investigation unit, the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Export Enforcement and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s office of inspector general are involved in the raids. She declined to comment further.

(12,640 posts)Someone high level at Caterpillar must have not backed off a contract dispute or pissed off someone in the Executive Branch food chain.
IRS doesn't usually go after the big guys unless they get a green light to do so from someone at the Cabinet level, even if they really do want to - IME, the Government doesn't want to impact "Big Business" that also furthers U.S. policy unless they no longer have that much use for that Business.

(6,017 posts)Guess which current President of the USA bought into Deere stock?
He also promised to build his wall using Caterpillar & Deere equipment.
Btw, Caterpillar has plants in China and had to shut down 5 plants a year ago, sooo it won't take much to really hurt them.
Which would be a boon to Deere.
