Exclusive: Two other Trump advisers also spoke with Russian envoy during GOP convention

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is not the only member of President Trumps campaign who spoke to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at a diplomacy conference connected to the Republican National Convention in July. At least two more members of the Trump campaigns national security officials also spoke with Kislyak at the event, and several more Trump national security advisers were in attendance.
It's unknown what the Trump campaign officials who spoke with the ambassador J.D. Gordon and Carter Page discussed with him. Those who took part in the events in Cleveland said it is not unusual for presidential campaign teams to interact with diplomats.
However, the newly-revealed communications further contradict months of repeated denials by Trump officials that his campaign had contact with officials representing the Russian government.
The Justice Departments acknowledgement Wednesday that Sessions spoke with Kislyak twice in 2016 has led to calls for him to recuse himself from investigations into the Trump teams contact with Russia. By Thursday afternoon, Sessions said he would recuse himself.

I'm all in favor of diplomacy but, really, how in the fuck can an Ambassador from a hostile foreign power be at a political convention??

(15,888 posts)Mr. Page was closelipped about the purpose of his visit, telling RIA Novosti, a Russian state-run news agency, that he would stay in Moscow until Tuesday and would meet with business leaders and thought leaders.
Mr. Page, who founded an investment company in New York called Global Energy Capital, drew attention during the summer for a speech that criticized the United States and other Western nations for a hypocritical focus on ideas such as democratization, inequality, corruption and regime change in Russia and in other parts of the former Soviet Union.
He worked as an investment banker in Russia for at least three years in the 2000s, advising on several major transactions involving Russian state companies. Mr. Pages extensive business links in Russia prompted suggestions that he might be serving Mr. Trump as a back-channel liaison with senior Kremlin officials.

(5,730 posts)How much "diplomatic" involvement with one country is necessary during a political campaign? The whole thing - and the whole crowd - smells like seven day old fish in 95 degree heat.
Even Ivanka had to take a stupid "vacation" with Putin's girlfriend during the middle of the campaign and visit - what - Croatia? Not like Hawaii or Paris or Tuscany.
What a crock.

In March, he joined the Trump Campaign as the Director of National Security, managing the National Security Advisory Committee under its Chairman, Senator Jeff Sessions (R. - Ala.). In July, during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, Gordon reportedly played a key policy role in the GOP Platform development. This includes advising delegates who defeated an amendment calling for lethal assistance to Ukraine in its struggle against Russia."

(5,268 posts)The silly weasel made sure to deflect from identity of current mysterious billionaires who own Glencore, involved in the Rosneft deal (reportedly involving Trump's buddy who bought Trump property in Palm Beach)
Page threw out the name Marc Rich (pardoned by Bill Clinton) who founded Glencore as a way to distract and make it sound like Clintons have some kind of involvement in this mess. In fact, Marc Rich sold out his entire interest in Glencore in 1993 and died in 2013 so had no involvement whatsoever in this Rosneft deal.
That plus his other off the wall attacks on Hillary were so obviously goofy ploys to shift focus away from Trump/Russia collusiion
