House Intelligence Committee member Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) said Thursday that information about Attorney General Jeff Sessions' conversations with a Russian ambassador "should never have made it to the public domain."
"We cannot overlook the fact that the methodology of the collection and the content of that transcript never should have made into the public domain," Gowdy said in an appearance on MSNBC. "And people may like that it did today, because it hurts Republicans, but what it really does is it hurts our country because you are leaking classified information."
He said that "all facets" of Sessions' contacts are important, but the leak particularly so.
"I'm not focused on the leak, but the leak is really, really, important," Gowdy said.
Gowdy also said that "Congress is not equipped to investigate crime."

He called for an investigation of "every facet" of Russia's attempts to interfere with anything "from elections to ..................................................................................

(9,426 posts)He lostall credibility when he took over the investigation of Hillary Clinton. He thought he could march in, get her convicted, then go on to be a shining star in the corrupt leadership of the gop. That 11 hour fiasco was definitely a WIN for our side. Gowdy looked like a complete fool. He is "not focused on the leak" Who does he think he is fooling, they are ALL focused on finding out who blew the whistle on their underhand schemes.

Your slip is showing, Gordy: you just demonstrated that the "classified" BS is really about not embarrassing government officials, not national security. Asshole.

Sorry KGOPers, but treasonous crap like Russiagate should abso-friggin-lutely become public. You all to often seem to forget that YOU are a PUBLIC servant and WE, the U.S. citizens are YOUR bosses. If you're colluding with/selling info to our enemy that is info we, your employers, have a right to know so we can kick your ass to the curb and/or throw it in prison.
At least Gowdy finally remembers that "Congress is not equipped to investigate a crime" so we get an independent special investigator NOW right.
Else You Are Mad
(3,040 posts)Gowdy forgot to finish that sentence. He must have meant: "Congress is not equipped to investigate crime, unless you are a Democrat. Then we will use the full power and resources of Congress to investigate you."

AND, this is how stupid this country is - 1/3 of the dumbass, brain washed GOP pods will now think that ELECTED MEMBERS OF CONGRESS engage in clandestine international operations subject to the standards of secret service, and another 1/3 of the country will bleat and say this is just partisan politics.

Someone who loves his/her country would be outraged about the Russian connections before-during-after the election, that is treason, and they should be very upset regardless of the party that committed the criminal acts.
Why do some people still believe and trust these criminals?

It wasn't "classified" when Sessions was questioned about it during his public confirmation hearing. And Sessions neither objected to the questions about his Russian contacts as inquiring into classified territory, nor floated as an excuse for his answer that he had to keep those contacts secret because they were (or are) classified.
Trump tossed around the "leaks of classified information" bullshit as well. How about some Republican step up and tell us exactly what classification this information falls into? The "hurts Trump" classification? The "damn I thought they'd never find out" classification?

committing treason and selling us out to the Russians.
The problem is that someone revealed that you repugs are hurting our country by committing treason and selling us out to the Russians.
It 'hurts our country' to show our country how the repugs are hurting our country. That's why repugs are concerned about the leaked info.
They just don't want to see our country get hurt.
sinkingfeeling
(51,436 posts)That was the core issue with Hillary's email that the GOP kept digging at. Why would an irrelevant conversation be 'classified'?
Or did they stamp 'SECRET' on these conversation transcripts to protect Russian interests and their GOP moles?

(22,755 posts)No one will speak to you about sensitive matters if everything they say will become public. We would have no nuclear weapons reduction agreements, trade deals, etc without the trust that depends on confidentiality. But when someone like Sessions breaks the law, such conversations must be made public.

You can bet the source or persons unknown who did this service were professionals and get a government check. Every indiscretion assholes such Gowdy, Sessions, McConnell, Ryan commits is now fair game. Pure payback.
