White House spokeswoman: Trump doesn't believe Comey that Obama didn't wiretap

President Donald Trump does not accept an assertion from FBI Director James Comey that former President Barack Obama did not order an illegal wiretap of Trump Tower during last years presidential campaign, a White House spokeswoman said Monday.
Trump leveled the explosive accusation on Twitter over the weekend, delivering it without any evidence. Through a spokesman, Obama has flatly denied the charge, as has James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence under Obama. White House officials have yet to offer any proof to back Trumps claim, instead suggesting that the matter should be investigated. And while Comey has not publicly addressed Trumps allegation, multiple media outlets have reported that he asked the Department of Justice to knock down the presidents accusation because it suggests that the FBI broke the law by carrying out the alleged wiretap.
Asked by ABC Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulos if Trump was willing to accept the denial of his FBI director, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said he was not.
You know, I don't think he does, George, Sanders said. I think he firmly believes that this is a storyline that has been reported pretty widely by quite a few outlets. The wiretapping has been discussed in The New York Times, BBC, Fox News and we believe that it should be looked at by the House Intelligence Committee.

(1,129 posts)At least SHSanders was accurate:
"I think he firmly believes that this...
Is a STORYLINE that has been reported pretty widely by Quite a Few outlets. The wiretapping has been discussed by NYT, BBC & Fox....."
Therefore we believe it should be looked into by the HIC....
Gameplay:
say stupid shit that is false...
then when media reports that it was stupid & false we will use the sheer number of reports
as a basis to assert the validity & merit of the stupid shit we said.

At one point she said "if he walked across the Potomac, they would all say he can't swim"- first time I've heard that line with Christian reference- must be something the fundamentalist right wingers throw out?

Must be tough to President when you don't believe any of your intelligence sources.

(2,270 posts)I agree with you 100%. Of course saying what he did was outrageous. It was meant to be. Who's talking about Sessions now? Trumpy pulled Jeffies feet out of the fire and WILL be expecting payback. That's the "Art of the Deal" thing you know. With the new Muslim ban Trumpys shoving the Russian thing even farther from the spotlight ............ and we're falling for it, it seems.

(20,135 posts)The tweets aren't part of some plan. It's very simple: he sees some story on Fox or whatever right wing "news" sites he goes to, and then he tweets about it. He doesn't think before he does it; he just tweets what he sees.
It SEEMS like an intentional distraction, but I don't think it is. I think he's just unstable and has no self-control.
