NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal judge has cleared the way for New Orleans officials to remove a fourth Confederate-era monument.

The Liberty Monument, honoring whites who rebelled against a Reconstruction government, is among four the City Council voted to remove in December 2015. The vote led to litigation by opponents of the removal.

On Monday, a federal appeals court said three statues dedicated to Confederate leaders could be removed.

To many in the South...the Civil War was a most humiliating experience, and they still live the confederacy. Hence, much of the hatred for the American government in general.

I know there are good and decent people living in the South; but there is enough of that separatist mentality and hatred toward those "damned Negroes that brought on the Civil War", and keeping their flag waving and their monuments to confederate players will live on.

IMHO.

I was simply wondering on what legal grounds did they seek to block the removal.
