Dusseldorf attacks: Man, 80, assaulted with machete hours after nine hurt in station axe rampage

Source: The Telegraph

A man has been attacked with a machete in the German city of Dsseldorf the day after an axe-wielding attacker injured nine people at the main railway station.

Police said the 80-year-old has been "seriously injured" after he was targeted by an "unidentified assailant" in a car park on Friday. The attacker is believed to be on the run.

The victim has been taken to hospital after the assault, which is not believed to be connected to Thursday night's station attack.

...snip...

Earlier, German police said the suspect in Thursday's attack was suffering from psychological problems.

Very freaky. I am usually in the Düsseldorf Hbf at least once a day, and there is never a shortage of freaky characters there. But I have never been present for anything like this. Of course, last night was a disaster by train OR by air. I was coming back here from Spain, and the French air traffic controllers went on strike. Guess where you have to fly over if you're coming from Barcelona to Düsseldorf? So the plane was two hours late getting into Barcelona and even later getting back to Düsseldorf, so I didn't get home until midnight. At least THIS time, the co-pilot did NOT decide to crash the plane into the side of an Alp halfway home (happened last year with the same airline on the same route). So now some nut case decides to attack the train station the one day this week when I'm flying instead. The whole world seems possessed by March Madness.
