New York federal prosecutor Preet Bharara fired by Trump administration
Source: Washington Post
Preet Bharara, one of the most high-profile federal prosecutors in the country, was fired Saturday after refusing to submit a letter of resignation as part of an ouster of the remaining U.S. attorneys who were holdovers from the Obama administration, according to people familiar with the matter.
I did not resign, Bharara said on Twitter. Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life.
On Friday, acting deputy attorney general Dana Boente began making calls to 46 prosecutors asking for their resignations. Such requests are a normal part of a transition of power from one administration to another, and about half of the 94 Obama-era U.S. attorneys had already left their jobs.

When asked Friday whether Bharara was also being asked for a resignation letter, one White House official not authorized to speak publicly said, Everybodys gone, and would not engage further on the issue. Two people close to the president said the presidents chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon and Attorney General Jeff Sessions want a clean slate of federal prosecutors and are unconcerned about any perception that the White House appears to have changed its mind about Bharara. The ouster of former president Barack Obamas federal prosecutors is about asserting who's in power, these people said.

(7,153 posts)On the DoJ website, often the biggest financial frauds were prosecuted by the Manhattan US Attorney's office.
I guess there will be a marked drop-off in such prosecutions.

(130,834 posts)and I knew this would be coming. When I had seen the articles where Preet had met with Drumpf and asked him to stay, I wondered what someone did to possibly "muzzle" him considering he would have full access to info on all of Drumpf's vast empire of illegalities. Obviously GrimReaper and/or Beauregard "knew better".

(7,805 posts)Everyone is attacking this, obtuse to the fact he prosecuted 1 or 2 crimes; but aide & abetted Wall Street fraud cases, to be buried, in the billions.
Preet and Sally barked loud; but were tools for WS interests.
NOTE: I'm not a believer Trump & Sessions will be any different...especially given the fact the Donald is systemically & incestuously involved with Goldman Sachs ..
But this changing of the guard is long..overdue.

The Rise of Hitler:
Hitler Becomes Dictator
After the elections of March 5, 1933, the Nazis began a systematic takeover of the state governments throughout Germany, ending a centuries-old tradition of local political independence. Armed SA and SS thugs barged into local government offices using the state of emergency decree as a pretext to throw out legitimate office holders and replace them with Nazi Reich commissioners.
Political enemies were arrested by the thousands and put in hastily constructed holding pens. Old army barracks and abandoned factories were used as prisons. Once inside, prisoners were subjected to military style drills and harsh discipline. They were often beaten and sometimes even tortured to death. This was the very beginning of the Nazi concentration camp system.
At this time, these early concentration camps were loosely organized under the control of the SA and the rival SS. Many were little more than barbed-wire stockades know as 'wild' concentration camps, set up by local Gauleiters and SA leaders.

(23,083 posts)and was filing a lawsuit? Sorry, wish I could remember. Does anyone else remember something about him in the news this week? It wasn't the story itself, but was part of something else? I have a feeling this is important and why this action came at this particular time.
