Dems threaten to pull support if Russia probe not 'legitimate'

Source: The Hill

Some Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee are threatening to pull support from the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election if it is not conducted in a "legitimate" manner.

"I'm not going to be part of a dog-and-pony show that is not a serious effort to do an investigation, because this is really serious,” said Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), according to The New York Times.

“If it’s not a legitimate and comprehensive and in-depth investigation, why would we be party to it?” she added.

“Most of us would agree that there’s no way we’re participating in any form of cover-up or whitewash, so we will walk away if the moment requires,” said Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) while adding that “we’re certainly not there yet.”

The Democrats are reportedly fearful that the committee probe could become heavily entangled in party politics, preventing any substantive investigation from taking place.

Those fears are warranted.

Nunes and the other committee Republicans will still be able to avoid any real investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections, or into Trump's ties to Russian interference in the 2016 elections, because they don't NEED any Democrats to "support" them.

They control the House Intelligence Committee, and they control both houses of Congress as well.

Here's proof of what's to come as far as the House Intelligence Committee's investigation is concerned:

Let's not forget that the GOP and red states are trying to put together a constitutional convention to rewrite the constitution as we speak... so if that happens nothing matters.

The Constitution cannot be rewritten.

The only thing they could do is draft an Amendment, but it would be extraordinarily difficult to get it passed.

It's not gonna happen in Trump's lifetime.

It seems the monied ones have bought their way closer to the number of states needed and in one of the three ways to call the convention there aren't too many limitations. I'm no constitutional lawyer though.
But I would probably use a different analogy than you used.... I'm not convinced he's going to be around too long.

Russia probe is taking so long and is mired in partisan politics. Yes Trump is probably guilty of collusion with Russia, but he is also guilty of violating the Emoluments Clause in the constitution. He just got a ton of trademarks from China, more than anyone has ever received at one time. He has not properly divested from his businesses, foreign dignitaries are staying in his Trump hotel down the street from the White House to curry favor. He is directly profiting off the presidency while in office, and taking money from foreign entities. I think these violations are more clear cut and less subject to nuance than the Russia story.

If Dems pull out they better have a solid plan to get an investigation that is unbiased and deep. They need a PR media strategy long before they walk to energize voters to PROTEST. It must be a well thought out plan not knee jerk and cross the aisle to convince on the fence Repubic's that there's something rotten in the WH between tRUMP and Russia and Flynn and ManaFart etc. AND THE LEAKS NEED TO FLOW before they walk.

I know it's dumb...I just don't know what can else can be done if the people on our side are disarmed and basically powerless.

Except, more protesting and that won't end well if they do go full on fascist.

Pass a non-binding resolution?

More protesting might help if the numbers are as high as the Women's March on Washington.

Where is the Occupy Movement?

How about an "Occupy the Republican Party" or "Occupy the White House"....or both?

The day after the election my wife told me "We just woke up in Russia". And so we have.

For months I have been lamenting the end of America as we knew it. And the events of each passing day only solidify my perception.

We are living under an authoritarian regime that is posing as a democracy. Hell, even Trump may not even realize he has assumed the mantle of dictator. Groups of us are in physical peril for trying the GOP's patience whether we admit it or not. As a nation we are rapidly approaching the point where the mask of the regime slips off once and for all and we collectively acknowledge it's game over.

I co-taught a class of SEIU members "non violent confrontation". It was a lot of fun & the most important thing we taught was that each person had to make a decision on what they personally wanted to accomplish.

We also discussed how those that wanted to be arrested could accomplish that without being physically harmed. We taught through role play how to stand up to the Police & Security Guard.
